General Fishing Tips / Albion River
« on: June 28, 2023, 10:53:42 AM »
The family and I are going to Albion the last week of July, we are hoping to get out for some rockfish. If the weather is not cooperative I was wondering if there were striped perch in the river I think on light tackle they would be a good fight just wondering if any of you folks could verify that there are perch in there and if it's legal to fish for them thank you

This summer I'm going to do a trip to Fort Bragg . I will be there for 8 days I do not have any saltwater reels and was planning on just taking my freshwater stuff is this a good idea or bad idea ? I have no problem thoroughly cleaning it afterwards. Do any of you guys use your freshwater stuff in the ocean? , any tips would be great or suggestions on a not too expensive spinning 4 baitcast reel

« on: September 27, 2015, 11:34:15 AM »
A friend of a friend, has a OK P 13 that he needs to sell for health reasons. He only used it twice.
He said that if I could come up with $450 cash I could have it. That seems like a good deal to me.
I have never paddled this boat before, I am 6 ft 270 pounds is that pushing it for this boat. Your opinions please

General Fishing Tips / Russian River Smallies
« on: July 28, 2013, 07:49:19 PM »
I want to drift the Russian for smalls. I would like to also find a campground on the river that will accommodate a travel trailer. Casini Ranch looks cool but is that to close to ocean to have smallmouth?
Any suggestions,

General Talk / Kayaking with Kids?
« on: July 15, 2012, 03:00:53 PM »
I was hoping those of you with kiddos might chime in about your experiences kayaking with your children.  When did you start taking your kids out in the kayak? What did your set up look like? How long did they yak with you before getting their own yaks? Did you tow them behind at that point or were they ready to go solo? What kayak did you use as their starter?

Right now my boys are little (18 mo and 3 mo) so I do have some time.

My wife and I have 2 OK Drifters. My 18 mo does enjoy going out on the yak for pleasure paddles. He sits in my lap and holds on to the paddle. Right now it works out well but as he gets bigger we will need to make adjustments.

I have been seriously considering changing boats to a Cobra Fish N'Dive or Malibu X-factor so that I have a front facing jump seat. Seems like it would allow us to interact and help out when they are old enough to fish.

This is the beginning stage for me so I am sure there is more to consider. I hope that those of you who have "been there/done that" can help me out.

General Fishing Tips / If you had to choose one!!
« on: May 21, 2010, 05:44:44 PM »
If you could only have one rock fish set-up (artificial) what would it be?
Line test?
weight?
color?

I am a total rock fish newby. I went once last year and I am Hooked, to put it mildly. I dont make it to the coast much so I would love to improve my chances.

P.S Is Fort Ross still open for fishing. The regs look like it might be closed but I cant tell.

Thanx for your input in advance! :smt003
