22 other anglers mostly from the here on the Central Coast went on the Islander out of Fishermans Landing last week to spend two days at San Clemente Island. Weather was up a little so we had to stay on the front side but the fishing was pretty good and lots of fish around.

Definitely a bait bite this time around. Usually, I am able to get swimbait fish and followers but not the case.
All my catches came on live bait and good live bait was the key to getting the yellows.

I was able to land 6 of them over the 2 days and who knows how many fiesty Bonito and calicos lost count on them, but fun none the less.

Ill let the photos and the video do most of the talking.

The crew was great as always, booking was super simple through fishvillage.com

Get on the mailing list so you do not miss out for next years trip.

5 of us launched early Friday morning just as the Sun was trying to come out and headed in search of some fish. The rumor was some squid was around and we searched for it because who does not love LIVE squid. Was not able to find any but that did not matter. Joe was able to get a nice halibut on the edge of a little reef.

Had a blast out on the water, I think I am just as excited to see a buddy catch a monster as catching one myself. I said almost.

Lake has been on fire lately. Coming a couple of feet overnight and water still staying fairly clear have the Mt Lassen Trout on the Chew...

Trolled Squarebills and Tazmanian Devils, which if you have not tried them yet, make sure to give them a go for sure. Amazing action on those things.

Safety First / La Jolla Kayak Fisherman Found facedown in the water
« on: September 19, 2018, 08:58:08 AM »
On 9.15 dave was out with some buddies off La Jolla when he was found in the water facedown and not responding. He was brought onto a buddies kayak and paddled to shore. Dave is in his 20s and it was suspected to be a heart condition that caused this that he was not aware of yet. It does not sound like he is gonna pull out of this one and will be leaving us for good. They are looking for organ donor recipients now and he has been declared brain dead per doctors according to his father. Please pray for Dave's family, this is sad to hear about, cant imagine.

A gofund me has been set up for Dave's family. https://www.gofundme.com/david-petronovich

More details from the kayakers that preformed the rescue as well as Dave's father.

Took July off from making videos to spend some time with the family. We did head north and fish the Eastern Sierra range in early July and spent the 4th up there. Got to take Ben fishing for some Gills and small bass in a pond which had a pretty much instant bite on the mealworms.

Also rented a boat with Marys Dad to scoot around Crowley and found a pile of Sac Perch and loaded the basket with about 15 of them which filled my Yeti 20qt.

Perch were coming on the 2inch Big Hammer swimbaits, these perch nail the bait probably harder than anything for there size.

Best bite for me trout wise was in the creeks.

Over 80 kayakers gathered along the Central Coast of California to fish in the Estero Kayak Challenge which was held on June 2, 2018. Conditions out on the water shaped up nicely and the bite on rockfish and lingcod was pretty good early in the morning. I headed south a ways and found some good open water marks that were putting fish over the side of the kayak but was not going to be enough for top places, So decided I was going to head even further south. Peddles in a southernly direction for about 30 minutes staying between 60 and 80 feet of water looking for structure on my Lowrance fishfinder, but was not able to find any new structure to drop.

Decided to head shallow and fish the kelp in search of a cabezon as I had it all to myself except a small tin skiff fishing the outer edge. As soon as I got settled into the kelp, I tied on a shrimp fly with a Shimano Lucanus Jig. Dropped down and had a solid take down that pulled right into the kelp stringers. Was able to horse out a 6lb Vermillion. The very next drop I set my rod down to submit the photo of this fish on the Iangler app that we were using during this tournament. My Rod doubles over and the drag starts to scream as line is being pulled from my spool. As I pick up my rod, I can feel my 60lb FINS braid just sawing through the kelp. Get that distinct Pop between each stand of kelp. What had I hooked. Initial thoughts were maybe a smaller seabass, had maybe a leopard shark took the shrimp I had on the shrimp fly. Well moments later I see a nice sheepshead pop up from the kelp. Teeth look like they came out of some Sci Fi movie or something. Grabbed it with my lucids grips and tossed it into the kayak as quickly as possible. Was stoked to get this nice fish on the boat. But was fishing the tournament was based off the Slam and you had to have 3 specific species which were Lingcod, Rockfish and Cabezon which for me was not coming easy today. Did towards the end of the day find some structure that had them on it but kept getting shorts.

We were all met at the beach by DFW to check our fishing license and make sure we have our fishing nets.
All in all was a great day of fishing with some great anglers on the water.

Congratulations to Ricardo Holden for taking home 1st place with the largest Slam.

When I first got this Camera, I had no intention of it teaching so much about fish behavior and just how long some of these fish will chase a bait for. Makes you wonder, but I Sat down and after viewing a 20 hours of footage. Packed it into a short 4 minute clip of these guys coming in to check out the bait.

Enjoy

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / March Madness
« on: April 12, 2018, 06:19:05 PM »
Fun March that is for sure.

Had fun messing with the GOFISH cam and fishing for pretty much everything Cachuma had to offer.

Casting the camera gets old pretty quick okey really quick.

But trolling it leads to some amazing shots.

This video has about half the shots I got. Who would have tought Trout on a bama rig.

Been having a blast at Cachuma Lake trolling for trout.

Been spotting some crappie as well, now just to get the strikes. Loving the GoFish Cam

Last week spent it in Cambria and between windy days managed a couple hours pounding the Surf...

Got out and fished with Ben for a little bit as well.

Plus said goodbye to my NEW drone.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / GoFish Cam review and some clips
« on: February 04, 2018, 08:59:46 AM »
Pretty cool little camera. Initially had some issues when I first got the camera but seems like the programming has been fixed.

This camera has built in wifi so you can connect to your phone to viw the footage while still on the water.
Also has a "nightvision" aka built in green light.

Tight Lines guys
