General Talk / Re: American River 9/25
« on: September 17, 2021, 09:58:22 AM »
My neighbor got a couple out of Knights Landing on Sac River last week. Flow is about 5000 cfm there, nice and wide, fairly easy to paddle, pedal upstream but packed on weekend with boats.

For Sale / Kayak Storage on Wheels
« on: February 12, 2021, 12:48:17 PM »
Holds three kayaks and one slot for SUP. Base is 3/4" plywood, enough weight and width so very stable. Pipe is 2" PVC, screwed together so comes apart. I have moved once, marked the pieces to put back together.

If I remember correctly the  4 casters/wheels were ball bearing 250 Lb. max load on each.

I also stored paddles, rods, hung PFD's, waders etc. on it.

Sacramento area

Message me if interested

For Sale / (Sold) Revo 16 (2015) and OK Prowler Trident 11 For Sale

Downsizing, wife says I can't buy the car I want unless I make room in garage.

$1500 for both, start your fleet -

Revo 16 has normal minor scratches, no options since purchased, vantage seat, standard fins and rudder

OK Trident 11- good light weight kayak to drag, carry to hard to reach places, throw in back of truck, reach streams/rivers/ponds. Needs handle on one side and one front seat clip, easy fix, although I have fished in it many times just the way it is, there is another spot to clip front seat.

In Sacramento area

I have fished the river in my hobie kayak a lot, mostly up north at Barge Hole, Redding area but recently went out of Knights Landing north of Woodland. I have also launched up out of Corning. This time of year when heavy agriculture season is over and rains haven't started, flow is lower, many boat launches are accessible to kayaks, especially pedal kayaks where you can pedal up stream. No need to have drop off and pick up spot although I have done that also. Many places on the river reverse currents form especially around bends where it is easy to hold your spot against current with little drift, especially in wide flat areas. In those places I float down through the deeper water, turn upriver, move over near the bank and pedal back up, repeat. Where the river narrows, current can be stronger and can't always pedal upstream. My general rule is if river is 10,000 cfs or less the hobie can handle it. I always pedal upstream first out of launch, if current to strong then head right back to launch try again  another day. I don't use an anchor because I always use light tackle and if I get a salmon, steelhead on I learned very quickly have to be able to turn the kayak and go with the fish. Plus some of those charter boat captains will come racing through and pretend they don't see you and I like to move out of the way or turn into the boat wake. If I want to fish one spot I find a place along the bank where I can nudge bow of kayak in the rocks and/or sand so it holds against the current.

Tuesday works for me, have you been recently? I see Sac river flow is about 8300 cfs, how is it working your way north? Do you launch at the public boat ramp?

I’ll probably launch from Knights Landing and troll north. I’ve never tried for salmon yet, so I’m open to suggestions.

I am in Woodland, been wanting to fish out of Knights Landing, I fished the lower Sac a lot up near Redding/Red Bluff for salmon/steelhead when I lived up there would like to try Knight's Landing if you don't mind company?
