This summer I learned an important lesson off the Santa Cruz Harbor when I paddled into a frenzy of sea lions pelicans and dolphins all feeding on a school of sardines. I was pulling sardines in 2 or 3 at a time when without warning, my kayak flipped. I imagine a sea lion was the culprit but I guess it could have been a dolphin. I went over with my pole in hand and a fellow kayaker held it for me while I turned the boat over and get in. Lost some tackle but that was it. My marine radio floated just like it's supposed to and was recovered.
So I still love to eat sardines and still fish for them but now fish more on the edges of the school if see alot of sea lions.

Wow, must have been kinda scary with al that chaos.
Grill sardines are delicious! I wish they had come back to Tomales like they did last year.
