I finally re-rigged my X-Factor and got rid of the scotty mount that was killing my back to reach.  I wanted to keep my cockpit open for big fish, and the sides next to my legs open so I can enter and exit the kayak easy when diving.  I needed two rod holders for trolling.  The flushmount that I have on the left side works well, but it does not hold a 6-7' rod out beyond the stroke of my paddle. The scotty rod holder that I had mounted below my feet worked okay, but it hurt my back to reach it.  I decided that the best solution to my problem was to go with a pair of ram-rod holders mounted closer to me.  They can be removed, leaving only the mounting base sticking up, and they are fully adjustable in all directions.  I mounted my GPS mount off to the side next to my fishfinder, and the buttons are within reach from a sitting position.  I used the rod holders for the first time today and I LOVE them.

Rod holders moved to the rear.

Rod holders moved to the front.

Clam cleat for my anchor line.

Hi Travis,

Do you have some kind of anchor line tie point up next to your seat?  I'm wondering what you do with the tail end of the line once it's engaged in the clam cleat... in case you need to "blow the chute," so to speak.

Nice set up Travis. I love the Ram Rod holders. THey are really good at going into any position you need em to includng just getting outta the way. When I surf launch I can stow em outta the way and really easy to set up once I'm out there. Just awesome for trolling.

I like how you got the knock out stick in an easy to reach spot too.

I just throw the excess neatly in the tankwell.  The end has a float on it so I can throw it overboard.

I have since added another bungie on the left side so I can secure my gaff and club on either side, and I have my pliers and side cutters secured on my center console.
You can see the club and gaff in the right of this pic.

I love this setup.  Every thing I need at my fingertips but out of the way, and when the rod holders are removed, the mounting balls don't get in the way at all.

How difficult is it to get the anchor line in the clam cleat?  It seems like a bit of a reach and trying to align it when anchoring seems like if could be hard.

I have only used the clam cleat once on the river and it was difficult at first.  I figured out that if you bring the anchor line across the left side of the stern you can get it in the clam cleat.  You have to stretch a little bit but I can't think of a better solution.  I was thinking maybee I should have mounted the clam cleat straight front to back.
