Stealth / Re: Damage on stealth. Thoughts?

I can fix it. It’s cracked at the bonding strip and in the black area it’s likely gel coat stress-cracks. I’m in Petaluma. Pm me for my #. It sucks for sure. That’s why I sold mine. Never in the water. Too flimsy.

I watched the repair video and it looks to be pretty comprehensive.  The only suggestion I’d make is to not use a grinder when initially sanding the repair area. I’d just use a dual action sander with 100grit, and go to 80 if you need to get more aggressive.  A grinder can remove a lot more material than intended, and it’ll happen in a heartbeat lol.  The DA is a lot more forgiving and a lot easier to feather an area with.

I would use a small grinder with a 50 grit rol-loc disc. 100 grit on an orbital sander will take to long and you can’t get down into the damaged areas. I’ve fixed a lot of glass and you have to get to the root of the problem. You probably know that tho.

Fellow Petaluma dude here. Welcome. The scupper will get you there quickly. It’s a good kayak. Is it a dual hatch or a TW?

Stealth / Re: Stealth Live-well hatch
« on: November 16, 2021, 08:36:25 PM »
My livewell hatch is funky on my fisha 500 as well. It’s mounted on a contour which makes threading the lid on a bit of a pain.
that’s the same issue I have.  I complained about it to Tray, the SoCal stealth rep, and about a week later Brett sent me a new hatch assembly.  The issue however, as you mentioned is not the hatch assembly it’s the mounting position of the hatch.  So my options are to live with it, which I have been doing, or to design and machine or print a riser that will allow the hatch to sit flat.  An adapter of sorts.  It probably wouldn’t be super difficult to do, but it might be more hassle than it’s worth.

I actually took my hatch lid out put it in the oven and put the lid in it to straighten it when it was soft but it was then that I realized it was the hole being ona. Contoured surface that created the issue for me.

My first reaction to seeing the curvature of the deck as to the relation of the mounted hatch was wtf? I’ve been going back and forth as to keep my fisha 500 or sell it. It’s still not been in the water. Anyway a person could fabricate a deck mod out of wood then glass over it. That would be a pain. If you figure out a way to invent something of plastic to mount to the deck then the hatch assembly to that it would be pretty slick. I would be interested in collaborating or purchasing. Thanks. Craig.

Why do so many people go out alone?

Going out alone is fine if you're also prepared and an experienced mariner.  I do a lot of solo trips.  I say my PLB is my "buddy" and my hundreds of thousands of miles on the water gives me enough experience to know when it's not good to go out or it's time to head in early.

I think a better question is why do so many people skip self-rescue practice until it's an emergency?

Hundreds of thousand miles on a kayak?

Hey Y'all, just to clarify, I have one orange Fusion 480 and one grey and white Fisha 460 still available. There's been mild interest in both.

Gray and white!!!  Sounds fun in the ocean. Lol

Call one of the sponsors. They have Old Town on the ad but not on the list. Lol. Totally legit. Maybe it’s total weight of three individual species. That’s how I ran Albion.

It definitely is billed as total weight of three species.  It’s not an uncommon format for an ocean tournament.  ORC ran a 4 species kill tournament earlier this month. You ran Albion like that.  There’s nothing wrong with the kill tournament.  Spear fishing tournaments aren’t catch and release, but nobody complains about those around here.

Exactly Doug. It felt sketch to me as well.

This tournament is last minute, in NCKA’s territory where this forum is far and away the largest pool of potential participants, but nobody seems to know these folks.  They have an Instagram page and a store with a few clothing items, but there is an apparently much larger and unaffiliated outfit with the same name in Washington State.  There is a prize pool announced of $1750, which appears to be regardless of the number of entries.  Weigh ins are at a shop in town and not on the beach.

It may well be legit, but like I said there’s just enough that’s slightly off about this that I’d want someone I know to vouch for the organizers before I head down for this one.

I ordered a Stealth Fisha 500 that should be here soon from South Africa. I’m in Petaluma. Just over 16 feet. Sixty pounds. This is the fastest sit on top for its class. You can come over and check it out when it’s here. Take it down to the Marina here and try it.

Do you mind sharing the price? Id love to get a stealth but I cant justify something pricey unless I sell my hobie. And i dont want to sell my hobie haha
