Any NCKAers around or passing through Santa Maria can help me transfer an item further north (Bay/Sacramento area)? It's just a fishing rod.

It can wait until convenient for you and I got your gas.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Halibut fishing spots near Fort Bragg?
« on: August 13, 2022, 10:58:10 PM »
Ten mile beach is supposed to have big halibut there ^^

Seems logical cause of all the sand. It’s shallow close outs for some distance. Which access would you recommend?

I can't say I know from experience myself but, I do know of kayakers that fish out of MacKerricher beach, just south of 10 mile like OP mentioned.

There's a parking lot on the south end, also looks like the most viable place to launch.

Good effort as always, Charles!

Out of concern for this fishery, I submitted a petition last fall to reduce the daily bag limit on California halibut between Pt Reyes and Bodega Head to one fish per day. But the CA Fish and Game Commission, in all their distant wisdom, rejected the proposal.
I'm sorry but this proposal made no sense and I'm glad they rejected it.

The fishery there is alive and well.

Just because it's difficult to fish doesn't mean there aren't fish there.

Don't be too hard on yourself.  It's always easier in hindsight.

The decision to jump off and get out the way isn't an easy one. We don't have the same maneuverability. And I too give boaters a little too much good faith at times.

This atleast serves as example to many in safety. And many are glad you are alive.

Please focus on your recovery and remain optimistic!

Victor,

If you're reading this, please keep us posted on your progress when you can.

This is disheartening for many in this sport. Those that know and don't know you.

We really wish you well.

Please reach out to me if I can help in anyway.

B/r,

Tommy

Recipes / Re: Halibut Musubi

Looks good Eddie.

I found a recipe of wonton with halibut.

It was surprisingly really good. Just a normal wonton mix. Can do 50 wonton / 30 pork or chicken / 20 shrimp.

Just another idea.

Insane. He mentioned 75 miles round-trip in the thread.

Well. I think we are coming into a recession so. People are cutting back already.

But agree, prices need to stabilize soon.

I have one on order. But it'll be awhile before it comes to the dealer.

Hoping I can loan one from someone to finish building my rig.

If you have one that I could use for 2 days that would be awesome.

I'm in Sacramento but go all over.

Please let me know if you can help!

B/r,

Tommy

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak Salmon Fishing 101 ?

When it's season I happily make the 3 hour drive to the coast. Back-to-back days aren't uncommon either on a hot bite.

It really is addicting. The pinnacle of this sport in northern CA.

Another +1 for LoletaEric. He'll reduce the learning curb.
