Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Cosumnes River Preserve
« on: February 24, 2016, 07:21:51 PM »
Thanks all for the info. I'm a duffer on a cheap boat just wondering how the conditions were. I was thinking ( hoping ) the colder water would blow out the seaweed . See ya out there.

Places to Launch and Camp / Cosumnes River Preserve

Has anyone been out there lately?
I stopped by yesterday on the way home from work, mostly to check on the 'seaweed' condition.
From the dock it looked clear, just wondering If anyone has been out lately.
Last fall / late summer things were very clogged up with hyacinth.
With this bluebird weather we're wanting to go back out

General Talk / Re: Places to paddle around Ft. Bragg ( easy spots )
« on: May 02, 2015, 07:25:06 PM »
Thanks for the suggestions :smt003. We went to the Big river on Monday. Very nice place for us. I tried to take in the advice of playing the tides. The thing I didn't really consider was the wind howling ( ok well going pretty good ) up the canyon. Super scenery and hardly anyone else on the water. Getting back to the landing was quite the challenge in our funky little boats and limited paddling skill. Still very very nice.
On Wednesday we went to the Noyo river. We went to the Dolphin Isle campground, Nice people there let us launch from their campground.
A much smaller and completely deserted river for us, didn't see a single human our whole trip.  :smt002 Don't know exactly how far we went up, but found a nice little sandbar to picnic on. Seemed like more current in the river but more secluded and not so susceptible to the afternoon breeze.

Thanks again to all
Tom & Patti

Hi gang, we're going to Ft. Bragg next week and going to bring the 'yaks. We are newbies and just looking for easy spots to paddle around and picnic / sightsee. Estuary type spots, I may bring a pole just to throw out.
Thanks for the assist.

General Talk / Re: Delta Smelt Extinction Declaration

Well if two tunnels are good then three must be better. Delta smelt seem to be the only concern. Pump away Jerry!!  We don't need fresh water to feed the rest of the country.

Will the the lake get filled?  Went by there a couple of weeks ago and it looked pretty grim. I want to go, seeing as I just bought a non-fishing kayak that I fish out of.

Introductions / Re: I was born a poor .....

Thanks all for the warm welcome.

Indeed it has been fun so far, haven't been able to catch anything yet. But being out is were it's at. Last weekend I was threatened by a swan, nearly pooped on by cormorants, but had a fantastic time anyway.
Maybe that's why I'm not catching much , but that's ok by me. Like you all have said , being out and paddling is good for the soul.

So how many 3 eyed fish were caught???

Introductions / I was born a poor .....

Still poor, not really . But I'm just getting back into fishing, after a 20 something year break.
My luck is I've decided to start fishing again in California's biggest drought in 30 years. DOH!
I/we my lady and I just bought very beginner kayaks, So far I've made two outings, no fish and I've not drowned, so still in the win column.
Lurking on this board has been very helpful, so thank you all.
If you see a grey bearded guy fishing in a lime green non-fishing kayak, say Hi

Tom
I'll be spotted mostly around Sacramento
