Uh oh...I "TOLD" my wife I am going to this for just the Saturday.  She said "What!!!???" How many tournaments are there?  I said, "10 a year and I don't go to any except the awesome stars and stripers," she says "oh...It's my birthday week and I'll go to the spa on that Monday."  I say, "What???That's my fishing day!"  But...ok... :smt005.  I better make her birthday sweet.  Sept. 20th. I know God gave me the right wife.  Is that a legit day to attend, leave Novato early, fish wit ya'all...have a brew...home by 10pm?  I think I am in like 99% and am fairly stoked. :smt006

I'll go back through the Safety First forum and make sure I'll got all the bases covered.  Have also practiced deep water re-entry.  And I'm definitely not too proud to stay ashore if the weather is challenging.

I couldn’t have asked for nicer conditions. Not windy, the drift was slight and the day got sunny and warmed up in time for a fantastic potluck. Most of the time I’ve fished at Ocean Cove it has been for Simply Fishing so I haven’t had a chance to explore the area with a fish finder. Bryan, Adrian and I tried to find a good spot based on the maps we’d looked at the night before. All we found were little fish. The copper colored jig worked the best for me. I caught my first ocean salmon with it. I hooked up in 100 fow in front of Stillwater Cove. Then my line started going sideways and I could tell it was coming to the surface. I’ve never had a rockfish head for the surface so I was thinking maybe a salmon. Since I can’t convince anyone that the regs say it’s legal to keep since I wasn’t fishing for salmon, I released it. I’m going to have to give salmon fishing a try next year. I didn’t get any lings so I released all the fish I caught. Everybody seemed to have a great time at the potluck, and from the sound of it quite a few people were having a great time at the after party also. I was lucky enough to win the mushroom trip with Dylan. I’m looking forward to that. Thanks to Dylan and all the sponsors for supporting the cause. Also thanks to Ruben and family and the volunteers that put on another fantastic event.  :smt006

:smt006

I made the copper jig. Nice to hear it worked well. Thanks

Where can I buy some more?

What a great time. A little fog for the tournament but was gone for pot luck and raffle. I went lingless but there were some nice lings caught. Thanks for a great event Ruben. See you next year.

Another awesome get together with my NCKA family.  I fished with conventional gear for the first time in a long time and got lucky, but no lucky enough for a ling.

Had a great time at the tournament thanks Ruben. No one told me I would be competing with the seals. Had a nice for Ling on the line. Brought it up from the bottom then took me back down. This lasted several minutes. My partner (B-Rad) stated that he saw a seal with the Ling that I was fighting in its mouth.  Helpless Had to let it go. Chalk that one up to the seals in the area. I hate seals. :smt068 :smt068 :smt068

One of the best things about NCKA events are that you get to meet and hang with very cool people. Last weekend I had a pleasure meeting ScottV, DirtyDave, Alfredo, Eelkram, Bulldog and many more. It was just a pure blast. Big thanks to Ruben and everyone who made this event happen. Here is a little clip from Friday. It was a slow day but it's always a good time on the water.

Got home from Simply Fishing and some friends wanted to know where I got them from. Thanks for your help.

The local baitshop stocking them is Fish Heads in Petaluma, in the old Petaluma Sport and Dive location. Their website is www.gofishheads.com
