I figure I should add an emergency paddle to my kit.  What are you guys using?

Makes complete sense, but hatch space is a little tight in my AI with all the pool noodles, thru hull transducer, and battery.

I guess I should refine the question...  What are your thoughts on those collapsible paddles?

I keep my old Hobie paddle in the hatch of my X-Factor.  They are cheap, so it became the backup.

You mean the collapsible oar's  It might work in a pinch, but i'd rather have a paddle.

SINCoast used his Net once, for like a whole day when a forgot his paddle at home  :smt044

Yet another reason to have a bigass net.

I used to keep a spare paddle inside the hull, but now I just use a telescoping jetski paddle...and leave it secure inside the hull so I never forget it. Plus, it's orange so I can easily signal for help if needed. This is the one I have and it's surprisingly strong.

Google Yamaha telescoping paddle... I got mine for under $15 on amazon. And that orange bag can double as a signaling flag in emergencies...

I saw Howard McKim using a 2 X 4 once....

Any breakdown paddle should fit in your hatch, just make room.  Also, be sure it is secured somehow, so it doesn't slide to the back of the boat, out of reach.

I had half a paddle stuck inside my stern for two years, got wedged into the scupper hiole column.

I usually have a telescoping paddle like this shoved in my hatch:

Found it floating in the water near the SC Mile Buoy a few years ago...

junky spare bending branches paddle here. Just something that came as a bonus to a second-hand kayak.

Prior, I'd considered getting a camp shovel for dual-duty when camping. Or going the El Toro Bull Shot Regatta route and using a ping pong paddle (j/k).
14' Necky Dolphin, fast and wiggly, no room for anything.
Old Mitchell reel junkie.
