Hey all, Red here   :smt006   Haven't been riding my old Fish N Dive in a while.

Was wondering where the keeper halibut have been because the keepers have dropped off and many, many, short fish.

Places I have thought about dropping in:  Alameda Rockwall, Ferry Point, Berkeley Pier, San Pablo Yacht Harbor.

No exact spots of course, just an idea of what direction the fish are in...
Thanks for any reports... and a heck of a year...

BTW - is there going to be a San Pablo Yacht Harbor get-together this year?

Hey guys.... I want to add flush mount pole holders to my old Fish n Dive. 1. Do you know who has these on sale? Is West Marine a good vendor?  Rivets or regular stainless bolts?

Insane Duane from his forum used to be a master at this stuff but I haven’t seen nor heard from him in a few....

Thanks for any 411 ...Red

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Hobie Passport
« on: June 08, 2019, 10:31:26 AM »
Aka new Maurader I think?

Okay, maybe I missed reviews on this already? I am still using my old Cobra Fish n Dive.
Thinking about this newer Hobie. Comments on this low cost Hobie Drive appreciated by those who own, have used, or have intel on.

•How is the weight and set up (of the Drive) on this puppy?
•Does it keep up with the pack (as my Cobra is slow as molasses without a motor)?
•Is it suitable for S.F. Bay fishing as far as stability?
Thanks for any info!
I see REI is a vendor. Perhaps the best price or same anywhere at $1229?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / loading kayak from rear of vehicle by self
« on: September 24, 2016, 11:51:03 AM »
Any intel guys?  I am not going to side load my yak on the RAV4 after putting a quarter-sized ding in the side above the rear window.

Any suggestions for rear kayak loading?  Do any of you guys use those suction things that attach to the glass?  Any of you guys make that PVC thingy to guide the kayak over the rear?

Thanks for any info/suggestions!   :smt006

« on: July 04, 2015, 03:52:00 PM »
Hey NCKA gang, anyone have any Thule or Yakima racks they want to sell?  I need q-locks, crossbars, towers... the whole thing. I have a '96 Camry I wish to put the rack on.

Thanks.... if you have any of the pieces, I can purchase the towers (*as long as they fit* with said Yakima or Thule).

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Kayak rack for Camry
« on: January 21, 2015, 12:14:12 PM »
I have a 96. What do you guys know about Yakima or Thule Q-locks?

What is best? And is it worth purchasing the cradle that goes on top of the rack that the kayal sits in instead of placing it on the standard cross bars?

Thanks for any info/experiences.. Red    :smt006

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Odat at OAP
« on: February 01, 2009, 11:01:26 AM »
Got lost in the many responses to the thread, so I am making my own report - although this should probably be in the "It happened to me and I lived to talk about it section."

*Odat rescued himself first with self-rescue (which he practiced before this incident).

*It wasn't that bad out there for the stable kayaks Dave and I had as after Odat went back in, I asked Dave, "Are you coming back out?" as I phoned him as I was hovering just outside launch after he went to retrieve the loaned paddle from Odat.

*We never saw Odat go over as our anchored position had us pointing West toward the shore with our backs to him. We heard that shore-fishermen saw him go over when we got back on land.

*We were all right within one mile of shore with Odat just being a little bit West of the last 911 marker.  I would say he was about 150 yards out behind Dave and I and slightly South of us.

*After he got back on his yak by himself (still anchored) he yelled out at the top of his lungs. I heard him faintly, turned over my right shoulder to look back, and was surprised I could even hear him that far away. I turn to my right and yell to Dave who was less than 30 yards away and I had to raise my voice to get his attention (Dave had not hear him). I tell Dave, "Hey, I think that guy got one."  And, we just turn our heads forward again and continue fishing, About five minutes later, another scream of, "Heyyyyyyyy." Again, Dave did not hear him. I take our a mirror I have, hold it over my head against the sun, and signal to the guy (Odat). He waves with hand fully extended above his kayak which I see and interpret as AOK ASN.   I turn to Dave (who is paying attention to his fishing) and yell, "I think he landed one."  And, again, we go back to fishing. About five minutes later, "Heyyyyyy.'  So, I again, turn to Dave who heard the yell this time as well. I tell Dave, "Ether he has one or there is something wrong." So, I tell Dave to try to make contact with the guy on his VHF.  I go back to fishing, Dave never made contact with him. I look over my shoulder the next time and Dave had already broken free from his quick release on his anchor and has gone out to check on the guy. I phone Dave a couple times as he is reaching the guy and I am still fishing. He is too busy with what was assistance to answer the phone. I see the guy taking off for shore like a 'bat out of hell' and Dave paddling much more slowly behind coming in as I am still anchored fishing. Dave returns to where I am am, says, "That's it" I am going in... I have to retrieve my extra paddle I loaned as he informed me of Odat flipping, loosing his paddle, fishing rod while he was fooling with a tangled anchor line (attached to the front).

The main purpose of Odat's post was to publicly thank Dave for going out to get him AND having an extra paddle. I intially heard and signalled him. He was OK as he was sitting on top anchored. I am surprised that he didn't just try to surfboard paddle in laying flat down.

This was an FYI for anyone... check yourself and your foolproof plan B. I have probably been one of the least prepared in the past, but have always brought a buddy with me that was experienced.

If you do not like this one, what Eagle model would you recommend. I was going to get the Eagle 128, but I don't think it is still available locally in the Bay Area as I believe this model# is now discontinued... perhaps there is a new replacement that runs on (8AA batteries). Thanks for any tips or advice. -RF&D

And, where can you purchase it in the East-Bay Area? Thanks for any feedback or help. I was thinking of putting this on a Fish N Dive attaching it with two criss-crossed bungees on the deck w/ a short safety, I think? :smt003
