« on: August 06, 2023, 08:26:02 PM »
I'm looking to buy an old tarpon 140. I would prefer an older one with the Tupperware hatches but would also buy a newer one.
Its for a good friend of mine who wants to get in the game.

Safety First / helicopter rescue Sonoma coast
« on: November 27, 2022, 09:10:58 PM »
I just saw a video on my wife's phone of 2 guys in kayaks that were rescued somewhere off the Sonoma coast. they both looked healthy and fine. It looked like one was wearing a cotton hoodie. I just wanted to remind people not to be a dumbass when in the ocean. It seems like I am seeing more and more of these "Fresh and salty" guys out on the coast who are paddling $5000 worth of kayak and electronics while wearing jogging pants and a cotton hoodie. Please don't be that guy.

General Talk / camper recommendations?
« on: September 02, 2020, 08:18:08 PM »
After all these years of me tent camping solo cholo with my friends, my wife has decided that perhaps camping with me might actually be reasonably fun. She of course has certain comfort requirements that I am currently lacking in my game. A Ryder if you will. Henceforth, we are considering getting some sort of modern mobile camping apparatus. I know there are a lot of people here with a lot of experience with these devices and I would greatly appreciate your opinions and advice. She needs a queen size bed,a shower and a place to shit. Im hoping for something not too ginormous. What do you guys think?

Wanted To Buy / WTB: 2 Paddles
« on: April 29, 2019, 05:19:49 PM »
I'm looking for paddles. 1 for me and 1 for my buddy Ace who just bought his first kayak. I just missed out on the demo paddles they had at clavey. Let me know if you got an xtra or you hear of any good deals retail. Id like to upgrade from my 13year old aluminum shaft to one of those lightweight fiberglass/carbon jobs. My buddy Ace is looking for a mid-level Aluminum shaft. Both in that 230cm range.

Other Kayaks / Swell Scupper 14
« on: January 20, 2019, 09:38:03 AM »
A couple summers ago, myself and a few friends did a 5 day paddle and camp trip down the Napali coast on rented scupper pros. I was super-impressed with how well the boats handled surf and sea while loaded to the gills with gear. My only beef was not enough leg room with rudder controls. Since then, I have heard that Swell watercraft has worked with the original designer of the scupper-pro to make a new and improved version called the Scupper 14. I went to their website and the boat looks pretty bad-ass. According to the Swell watercraft site, the only place to try one is a place in FT.Bragg that does tours and classes but doesn't sell boats. I sent them an e-mail but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone heard anything about anyone carrying these boats in Nor-cal?

It takes place Sunday oct 7 in old courthouse square in Santa Rosa. Myself,The Spaniard, the spawnofspaniard and Chadrock are team "Toro Del Mar. There are 10 teams each using a 52inch pan provided by Gerard. It costs $20 to get in but the money goes to fire victims. Entrance also includes a vote. So I encourage all to come out,eat paella, help fire victims and exercise your right to vote.

Heroes On the Water (HOW) / Thank You Tony Moore
« on: January 01, 2018, 08:36:07 AM »
Tony works at the Golden One center in Sacramento where the Kings basketball team plays. Apparently, all the union (B66) ushers at the stadium decided to donate their Christmas bonuses to charity. Tony nominated HOW as one of the possible recipients. All the ushers voted and HOW won the $1000.00 donation. In addition, they gave us 6 tickets to Friday nights game and let us set up an information booth across from the cocktail stand. Raydon,Derrick and myself showed up and had a great time. We all manned the booth for the first half. During the 2nd quarter, Tony showed up with his entourage of beautiful women in Kings attire and a camera-man. Next thing I know, we are surrounded by beautiful women and holding a giant check on the jumbo-tron screen and the crowd was cheering. It was too cool for school to feel the warmth and support for our nations veterans pouring through the stadium. Thank you Tony, Thank you Ushers and Thank you Sacramento Kings.

Fishing Tournaments and Events / GS11 fishtacoshack
« on: April 20, 2017, 10:22:52 AM »
Once again, from the fruits of our madness and the inspiration of our brotherhood, the fishtacoshack shall rise again and rain free fishtacos down on all the peoples of GS11...or something like that  :smt044 :smt044.
So I am putting this thread out to ask for your help to make it happen.

First and foremost we need fresh rockfish fillets. Don't bring that shit that has been in your freezer since last year. We will have someone at the fish cleaning station accepting contributions and someone coming through the campground collecting fillets also. Please give. You can also bring fillets directly to the tacoshack located behind the stage.

Next we need the following raw materials. Please post on this thread if there is something you can bring.
           1) 5gl peanut oil..........................................................chadrock
           2) 16 boxes of tempura mix.............................................eelkram(8bx) other 8.bx.......Darius
           3)   (5) 2ltr bottles of club soda.......................................Dogwood
           4). 600+ corn tortillas....................................................Reelknots
           5).  (2) 5gl bottles of propane.........................................Raydon (1)  other (1)..Yakhopper
           6).  (2)  20lb bags of ice.................................................Abman
           7).  6 heads of cabbage..................................................Chinclan
8). Keg of homemade beer.............................................Dr Habenero (my hero)

Then its all about the salsa/condiments. we like to have a few different homemade salsas to keep it interesting. I know there are some people out there with the serious salsa skills. This is your time to shine. Please bring a full or half gallon if you can and put your screen name on the front as well as a hot/med/mild rating.

            1)  kayakjack...............med tomatillo/avocado salsa
            2)  Fishworks...............mango madness
            3).  Maul....................apple/cabbage coleslaw
            4)  Dr Habenero...........habenero salsa
            5)  Chadrock.................carrot/habanero salsa
            6).  El Tivo...................Red & Green salsas
            7)   Matanaska..............Green salsa
            8)   Bwodun... .............  Chipotle crema

Last but not least is the free slave labor force...or as they call it in the kayak fishing industry, "the pro-staff." These are the people who repeatedly put it all on the line in the trenches of the shack risking life, limb and 3rd degree burns so we can enjoy fresh, crispy fishtacos by the fuckload. So please bring us beers. If you see your name on the list and can't make it or are simply too traumatized from your last tour of duty, please post up.

             1) Chadrock
             2) Tiny
             3) vwool
             4) Annie are you ok
             5) Sailfish
             6) Cabeza de martillo
             7) The Spaniard
             8) DG
             9) kayakjack
            10) Bwodun

p.s. people making either material or labor contributions to the fishtacoshack are exempt from bringing a dish to the potluck.
