fished carmel area and caught a few of these, all released.  What are they?  They had the golden eye ring, and a smooth jaw but do not look like the golden eye in the dfg pics.

usually a copper has a band across the eye, which I don't see here.

probably a copper, but not as distinctive as some coppers.

if you put it on your stringer alive and when you get home, it's still kickin,
then it's a copper as a nickname for them is "never die".
