Title: Steel Hobie replacement cables
Post by: WingShooter on November 07, 2017, 04:59:27 PM
Hey Hobie guys. Since this is my busy time for baits, I've been wanting to post this for about a month now.

Ok so I broke my Hobie drive pulley like many of you and was looking to purchase some materials to fix it myself. Then I came across Alan Cross who happened to make these replacement cables. These cables are so awesome and made from rubber coated steel for only $25 bucks!

You need to replace these cables asap, trust me. If the Hobie plastic ones break, the plastic will be lodged in the hole and you will NOT be able to remove it. You will have to send it into Hobie on your dime. For just $25 you can eliminate so much headache. You can reach Alan at ledthrax@gmail.com. Enough said.

Looks like a good upgrade for the 180 drive.

That's nice they've addressed the issue but you still need to order it through a store, wait for it, go pick it up and do or wait for all the maintenance. Nah, I decided to rather spend $25 and 2 days later, unscrew old and replace with new. Not dealing with the otw hassle and never have to worry about it again seemed like a better option to me. Eliminate the problem before it is a problem my dad always said.

Just an FYI.  I just had CCK file the claim for the no-charge upgrade.  CCK is awesome.
HOWEVER, the upgrade is NOT stainless steel.  I was told that it is the same plastic, but with a larger diameter.  I don't know how much more durable it will be with a larger diameter plastic, but it may be safer to go with the steel after-market part as mentioned by Wingshooter.

If I had a 180 drive, I'd do the SS upgrade.
