Not sure what your "Science Background" is? If your education is compatible, you may want to check out Industrial Hygienist (IH). Most jobs centered around large construction projects will pay more than a city/county job.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Current Lake Shasta reports??
« on: May 09, 2023, 05:52:25 PM »
Spring transition is just starting, so the trout are really scattered throughout the water column and entire lake. Anywhere from the surface down to about 45-60ft at times depending on the water temps and weather. We just had a weeklong massive dump up here in the hills so maybe you got another shot at winter trout bite patterns. Other than that bass are pre spawn and should be off the hook at any time now. Call Phil’s propeller for a bass report, that’s not my specialty. Water temps can top out during the day between 50-60 depending on the weather again. But with warm weather in the forecast the trout bite should be on pause until thermocline develops and the shad ball up in the lower lake. That usually happens once the 100F weather sets in.

The lake is like full, full. First time in a few years. I expect my usual launches to be very, very inundated that weekend. I’d target a less heavily trafficked launch if I really want to be on the water that weekend (hint, I don’t). I will be people watching at Centimudi if I’m lucky and counting the number of newbie boat launchers dusting off old gear and forgetting their plugs. Good launches would be Hirz bay and Bailey cove on the McCloud. I’ve had mediocre success this spring with browns on that stretch but they may be scattering already. Kokes might be showing up there, that’s where they first appeared around this time last year. 18-20” last years grade.

The free launch across the dam would be a good launch option too, as would shore launching from turntable bay or up by McCloud bridge. I’ve been spending most of my time between sac river mouth and the dam, with dry fork putting out good trout for me this year. Whiskey has been turning on, however...

Thank you for the details!!!! We are on a houseboat for mothers day, leaving out of Silverthorn Marina. We planned on finding a cove north east of the marina. I planned on stopping at Phil's for local info and lobal baits

General Talk / Re: Any Bros can Weld?
« on: May 08, 2023, 06:33:08 AM »
Just grind off the small section you need welded and hit it with galvi spray, like mentioned above. The galvi spray is only good for touching up, not for spraying a whole assembly. I can do it this evening from 6-830 or Wed from 5-830?

Got to keep this at the top!! This was my first ever ab dive.

The harbor is great, but don't forget to stay out of the "jaws"; bigger boats come in HOT. It usually blows towards the ramp, but if it gets windy the 2.5 HP might struggle to get you back/forth to drift.

This post can't be any more truthful !! I worked with an older guy that told me, "Nobody on their death bed ever says, I wished I worked more overtime when I was younger."  Time spent with friends and family are golden. You can ask your kids what they got for Christmas the last few years. Unless it was a major item, most gifts aren't remembered, but vacations are remembered.

If a person cannot immediately re-enter their kayak, they better have enough insulation on under their dry suit. Without it, they will get too weak too quickly.

Be careful, most aluminum doesn't like to be bent; it may crack.

General Talk / Re: COVID After Effects
« on: January 12, 2022, 01:44:35 PM »
Saddest part of this whole thread is the fact that the media and many of our government officials have already won. They have made it OK for people to judge, hate, and discriminate other members of OUR society because they are or aren't vaccinated. If you treat another human differently because of their vaccination status - YOU are discriminating them, and that is no different than racial discrimination!!! There is nothing wrong with sharing information, hoping to win someone over, but if they choose to believe something different - GREAT!!! that is what FREEDOM is all about.
