I'm considering the purchase of a Tarpon 140. I'd like to get away from the FF slidetrax mount I use on my 120. I don't want the transducer mounted in the way of using the storage in the hatch areas and I'd like it to be more protected in case of a surf wipeout.  I'd like to hear what everyone has done with the fish finder on their Tarpon 140.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

What FF? My trans is in hull an under the cupholder area. Never been in my way. I load rods, paddles and whatever in i. Been in the same spot for 3.5 years/ FF is mounted on the dash area. It is a long reach, but I don't play with it much. I will find pics and post.

I have my head unit mounted in the foot well on the forward bulkhead.

Come on out! It's time to play. It's time for TROUT Bass and STRIPER. Let go of the hand brake!

I like the transducer placement. I'm going to look into moving the one on my 120. I'm not sure your FF is any safer from damage than mine is though. How do you think it would be lower on that mounting surface. I wonder if I would kick it getting in and out if it was lower.  Its not a deal breaker on the 140. Getting rid of the transducer arm is an improvement.

Nothing in the rules says I can't do that. We are strategic partners with Lowrance and Dragonfly. My contract does not specify what I can or can not use and I prefer HB.

If I crash I crash, but I never have in the surf, except when playing with a stripped kayak in the surf. Out of the times I have been in the ocean maybe twice I was worried about landing. I put my rods on deck and the FF in the hull 1 time out several hundred. Don't worry so much

When I say surf I mean doing a yard sale when landing on the beach. I can decide it's too rough and not launch. If it gets rougher while I'm fishing I would have to land anyway. I think stowing it could work if it had a handle attached and it was a mount like my HB FF. Attaching the cables to the back of my Lowrance would be tough to do OTW.
