Title: 2017 G2 model.
Post by: Baitman on December 08, 2016, 09:49:10 AM
Same as the 2016, except for a few changes.
First off,  I raised the center hatch ring 1.5" above the deck height.  Found the heavier paddlers had water coming up through the scuppers ,washing across the deck hatch.   Those hatches have not been reliable, causing a sinking in two cases...  Good news is  we've just found a great new center hatch to replace it.     This one has a toggle style lever to lock / release it.  Made in USA!  was an important factor in the decision.

Second big change is the rudder.   This new one is in the design / testing stage still.  This will have the ability to quickly remove with a release pin.   It allows for a better control cable connections.  Plus you can adapt an electric trolling motor to it in seconds without any tools.  Basically you can swap the rudder for a motor,, or vice versa.    Still trying out different rudder blades and shapes to decide which performs best.
Hoping to get out and fish,,,, uhh " Product Test"   :smt002   this weekend.

:beer2   Nice upgrades!  Any idea how much motor weight the pulleys can handle?  Can it handle a 10-20lbs motor?

that rudder looks so similar to the rudder I built for my old Prijon.
Simple , reliable design.
Interested to see the prototype Jim!

Thanks Victor,         The pulleys only work the steering.     Yes ,, this will handle those heavy 20#  minn kota's too.      Better still,, there's this.

www.bixpy.com      about to be released.   :smt007     Way better than the Torqeedo in price and performance.

I could use a non-leak hatch like that.
What's the dimension?
Is there an 0-ring to seal ?

For the earlier version G2's   I'm making an upgrade that will be available in a few more days.  It's a fiberglass ring that will raise the hatch 1.250" inches above the deck. ..    My kayak  also has that same problem of water seeping through that 8" hatch..  not a lot, but a PIA when your stuff gets wet.   The right thing to do is fix the problem for everyone.   So,,, anyone who would like one of these,,  please contact me. either pm,  or through my website.
The ring is free,, I will  gladly install it at no charge at my shop, or will  UPS it to your door,  you pay shipping.   I'll also make the new hatch available at cost... $ 15.

Making the mold now,,, should have the first rings available by mid-week.

Thanks, Jim!  I will bring my yak sometimes before salmon opener.  The leaks doesn't really bother/affect me, so I am not in a hurry.  I will bring my Torqeedo mod when I come by.  Thanks again for doing the right thing, that's exactly why I love my G2, you're a big part of it.

Jim, does the new hatch has the option of pairing a bucket or a bag with it?

Eel won't be ready until at least mid to late next week - crossed fingers that we don't get another storm by then...

Might as well get them up there while I can.. at least you'd have time to rig it, put in the water to familiarize how it operates compared to what you have.        I'd be halfway there sunday morning.    Hate driving up twice... it's 3 hrs just to Bodega.
Pouring down rain again even now !

I have something a little different in mind, but that will work (especially since I have it already :]).  That storage pod is ginormous!

Outstanding - I love the can-do attitude!

I'm busy with a big tour Friday afternoon through Sunday morning.  If you come up here this Sunday we'll get on the water somewhere - crabbing Humboldt Bay is likely a good option, and we may be able to hit Trinidad or Shelter Cove.  Keep in touch about it.

That ring is nice, soft and quality seems very good, should be water tight if it fits.  Probably need to check the inside diameter with Jim.

Soft ?    LOL....     It's a hard fiberglass part. " Rock hard baby...

Yes, it's the same diameter as the 8" Hobie hatch ring.  I know this because a friend in Ft Worth put a Hobie hatch in his Raptor...
