Wouldn't a better question be - Why is that little ass cabezone on a stringer?   :smt044

actually we should implement an NCKA change (if admin approves)...say to 20 inches...try and get a filet off a 15 in cabby...so wasteful  :smt009

I don't ever filet any size cabby anymore.  There is so much meat wasted in the process.  Just gut, gill and grill.  A 16" cab will eat just fine.

A 15' fish is perfect size for me and the wife.  So if we are eating that night it would go home with me.

Those buggers eat crabs, and abs so thinning them out a bit is a good thing.

I do not approve.  It's not my place to tell people what they can and can't take.  That's up to CDFW to do.

Literal translation from Spanish is "big head."

Not my place to tell others what to keep as long as it's a legal fish. If I need fish tacos for two that night, yeah, maybe. Filling the freezer, probably not.

Cabezon means, to me, "Beautiful Reef Hunter".

I have eaten abalone out of the stomach of a cab - in December.  Just told that story to Shane Embry, DFW Warden, yesterday.

They have the softest pectoral fins of any fish that I have handled.

They have no scales.

They have a 'comb' of teeth at their mouth which you can grab like a bass, but don't ever touch the teeth in their throat - you'll lose at least part of a finger.

What other fish talks to you?

I am a licensed guide.  DFW Guide ID:  1000124.   Let's do a trip together.
