That is good thinking material.
I especially liked this nugget:

"So, when a career sailor decides that it is not necessary to put his crew into life jackets as they work on the unstable deck of a boat speeding through the open water at 18 knots, he is not making a professional risk decision, he is a teenager texting and driving because he’s never been in a wreck while doing it."

Interesting article when you backed it up with pass tragedies. This will reinforce my thoughts of leaving my growing kids in other’s without our supervision doing certain activities.

Thanks for the article!  I ended up following it back to the Cold Water Recovery article (https://www.soundingsonline.com/voices/cold-water-recovery) ... which led me to the Beyond Cold Water Boot Camp video.

The Beyond Boot Camp video is a little slow/long, but has great information... pat dry, don't rub dry; takes 30+ minutes before a person becomes mildly hypothermic; cardiac issues will kill you before hypothermia will; keep Victim horizontal and immobilized; have a Coke and a smile; it's Urgent, not an Emergency...

Biggest take away was:  "1-10-1"   Watch the video to find find out what that means.   :smt003 :smt006

That was great affirmation on the best way to survive:”Simply wear your life jacket.”

The statistics were very interesting and convincing when backed up with the video.

THIS:  “The word ‘experienced’ often refers to someone who’s gotten away with doing the wrong thing more frequently than you have.”

Lack of humility can be deadly. Unfortunately humility seems to be even scarcer than common sense... it's gone all out of fashion.
