I like that Uni/Blood knot, would help to keep the tags out of the way while casting.

Likewise.

Wasn't too familiar with some of these knots until my tuna trip. Luckily the deck hands were there to help with these. Now i am more interested in tying these myself.

Been taking the easy way out and tying swivels to join my leader lines.  :smt001

I use the Albright, thought it does snag on the guides a bit as I'm reeling in or releasing line. Not sure if the others would do that.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

FG knot is my favorite mono/fluoro to braid knot. It's the least bulky of the line connector knots, as you're only really "tying" the braid around the tag end of the mono/fluoro to where the braid digs into the mono/fluoro. It's been successful for me on gear ranging from trout/black bass, up to striper/salmon up to the 30 lb range. Haven't tried it with tuna gear. Only downside is it can be a hassle to tie OTW.

These two knots were very popular knot on the BFT fishing trip.

I like simple though. The FG looks great for tying on the water and the type of species i will be fishing in the monterey bay.

The San Diego knot was used a lot as well.

The blood knot does look great for casting with the tag ends in the center of the knot.

FG knot is a must / the best when it comes to casting. I find this "finger-thumb" method to be the easiest by far:

For cinching down. Two wine corks wrapped in duct tape. Especially for lighter braid which will cut into your fingers before you get close to applying enough pressure to cinch.

I'm going towards the hollow core to flouro connections with the needles and all that glue and jazz, why?  Stay tuned...I'm not sure why yet... :smt005 :smt006

I have been using the FG for awhile and am pretty satisfied with the results.  The one prejudice I have against the hollow core is that it tends to float and not sink as fast as solid core braids.

How can you post a 15 minute video saying how to tie a knot in under a minute?  :smt044

I use the Alberto (RP knot) with 7 up & down.  Have several YFT over 200 and one at 293 with it.

I have gotten away from hollow core loop-to-loop.  Hollow core doesn't sink like solid does (I use JB100).  The other problem with loop-to-loop is that as your mono top shot gets shortened and-or kinked up (which inevitably occurs, you need to put on another loop-to-loop leader, if you have another one made up).  With a knot, you cut the leader off and go back to full lengthen your leader.  With an Alberto it is about a minute to tie.  The captain on my long-range boat warned me about FG knot failures, and suggested I stick with what's been working for me.  my $0.02.  -Dan

Haven't run topshot before - how much does everyone use for halibut in the bay?  What about for rockfish?  I have 40lb braid on the reel, thinking about 20 or 30 lb mono.  Just not sure how much I should use.  Thanks!

For halibut 0 feet. Salmon 30ft. RF 20ish and cut down as it gets worn on the rocks. For line rating just have some way of breaking it off if you get snagged on the bottom. But that’s just my thoughts. Lots of people do lots of different things.

Ive seem some youtube shorts showing a dropper loop as a line to line connection by snipping the loop off. I wonder what the strength rating is for braid to mono/flouro because that knot is super easy and would just have two small tags sticking out 90 degrees in the middle.

We know that knot holds ling and rockfish easily and I've never really had a failure at the knot where the line comes in or goes out, maybe a snapped off loop from a snagged shrimp fly at times.
