hey guys,

once i get a kayak, im thinking about adding some AMAs (want a trampoline for my dogs) and probably get a sail. I can get a hobie sidekick first, but then id have to exchange the whole thing out when i do get AMAs.

im looking at 2 options.
the XPS way mentioned here:

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=86177.msg991761#msg991761

or order some banana pontoons like attached pictures:

pros for pontoons:
can buy, dont need to fabricate.
can easily be deflated and transported

pros for xps foam:
can shape to glide better in water.
definitely cheaper

what do you guys think will be the better overall AMA?

Why not buy an Adventure Island instead?

well im 90% set on getting an oasis.

a tandem isand is about 4 feet longer and about 40 lbs more for the hull weight. over 100 lbs more rigged.
oh.. and it will costs thousands more.

Sorry, it's clear from your other post you want a tandem.  But a standard used AI is about 2500-3000 depending on year, and is really well designed for being a outrigger or catamaran.

no need to apologize, and yes youre right, i do see quite a few used AI's for sale online at that price. but you hardly see any TI's. even if there was a good deal on a TI.  i dont know if ill be able to jump on it. my garage is 17 feet deep. not sure how i would even store the TI. lol

sailing is going to be the least priority for me as of right now, but it is something that i will definitely get into. right now is just getting on the water, be stable and try to get more deck space for the dogs.

im assuming you have an AI. is it as good as it looks on youtube videos?

I love my AI for sure, it's a very fun toy to have.  But I like a standard kayak for most ocean fishing, especially for launching from the surf.  But the AI with a single AMA has been gold for trolling with my downrigger, and bringing my dog out with me as well  :smt003

You're right that used TIs are harder to find, and very expensive.

I don't really have a recommendation, but if you do go with the foam/fiberglass/epoxy method, it would be great to hear about how that works out...

Bro there’s one in SantaBarbara w your name on it

https://santabarbara.craigslist.org/bod/d/summerland-hobie-mirage-tandem-island/7453369553.html

BECAREFUL!!!!!!

That is one of two that is fake on CL and they're trying to get you to make a deposit to lock it in.
I had inquired about wanting to come see it and buy it but the seller stopped responding.

Yes, very fake. They had another ad that listed their website (can't recall the name off the top of my head), and it had several too-good-to-be-true deals. Googling the name revealed that they had scammed several people.

I have both an oasis and an AI (not TI). I would say if you can, get the AI. If you absolutely need to get an oasis, I see a 2017 for $2,750 on Facebook marketplace which is a pretty good deal
