Tried to go to town in our Crosstrek, but too many big branches in the road. Still 3 hours until sunrise, and listening to constant straining and snapping of tree-sizes branches…
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

I hope no one was hurt and that you guys get some rest.

This is an event that warrants using your homeowner's insurance.  I believe it's the case that in a widespread emergency weather situation like this your rates shouldn't go up from filing a claim.  Be sure to keep a detailed diary of everything you do to mitigate the damage - any cleaning, tarping, cutting, debris removal...etc. should be part of your claim (there are sometimes specific limits on tree removal).  When the settlement goes through - mostly based on the estimates of contractors and adjusters, the insurer will be glad to thank you for the work you did to help minimize further damage and to start on the road to recovery.  Thanks is not enough - give them the detailed diary in writing, and they are obligated to compensate you for the work you did.  Think of it like this:  you should be able to hire an emergency contractor to come help you, and that contractor will charge for every move they make regarding this loss on your property.  Any part of that work that you do is a savings to the insurer because you as the homeowner don't have overhead and profit built in like the contractor does.  So they're saving money if you do any of the work, but they still owe you a substantial amount for your efforts and materials that you need for mitigation and repair work.

The sooner you can get the branch or branches out/off of your house, apply a tarp or temporary roofing repair, remove wet drywall and insulation as well as other porous building materials, the more likely that you can avoid any secondary damage from occurring - namely mold.  See if you can rent a couple of blowers and a dehumidifier to run in the enclosed wet area, or if you have wood heat, crank it and do air exchange with the outdoors several times a day.  Getting the building materials that comprise your home back to dry standards is key to avoiding long term damage that the contractors might miss and the insurer may not pay for later.

Hang in there and look for the half-full part.
