CA Regulations / Re: Office of Administrative Law - Review of Rec. Groundfish Fishing Regulations« on: April 19, 2024, 02:36:03 PM »
I just got an email response from OAL stating the following:
"Good afternoon, 2024-0402-01S, Recreational Fishing for Federal Groundfish in 2024, was approved today and becomes effective today. Sincerely, OAL Reference Attorney" Hope we will get a confirmation from CDFW soon. Paul 3
CA Regulations / Office of Administrative Law - Review of Rec. Groundfish Fishing Regulations« on: April 19, 2024, 08:17:57 AM »
Since the Fish and Game Commission adopted the new recreational groundfish regulation on March 26, 2024, we anticipated that the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) would review it within a couple of weeks, but it is taking much longer. I am starting to get worried that we might not be able to go nearshore rockfishing on May 1st. I checked the OAL website, https://oal.ca.gov/proposed-regulations/, this morning to check on the status, but it only shows as "Proposed Regulations Under Review" I will be checking with OAL, CDFW, and FGC for any updates. If we don't get a positive update, we might have to take more active actions to expedite the review process. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Some of the actions we can consider are:

General Fishing Tips / Re: Neoprene Wrist Gasket Replacement« on: April 15, 2024, 08:53:24 PM »I was extremely reluctant to get a drysuit, as I've always had issues with latex rubber gloves. If I put on latex gloves, my hands turn red and skin gets itchy, and worse. So, when I got my first drysuit, I was planning on replacing the wrist gaskets, but miraculously, the latex wrist gaskets on my Kokatat (semi)drysuit don't seem to bother my skin. Yes, there are silicon wrist gaskets. I am not experienced. https://www.sitech.se/products/seals/silicone-wrist.aspx This was what Kokatat recommended; Thank you for your interest in Kokatat. Our semi dry Supernova Angler Suit does not have a latex neck gasket but is does have latex wrist gaskets. While Kokatat does not have alternative materials for our gaskets there are 3rd party latex alternatives on the market that can be used in DIY replacement applications. Paul 5

CA Regulations / Re: Navionics: 20fm waypoints/line setup« on: April 08, 2024, 06:35:14 PM »Thanks Paul for the info! Waypoints are location coordinates, not based on depth. CDFW established boundaries for enforcement like other protected areas. Paul 11
CA Regulations / Re: Navionics: 20fm waypoints/line setup« on: April 08, 2024, 09:49:15 AM »I was looking at the 20 fathom line on the Fish and wildlife's website and was a little confused. Joe and I commented on pushing out waypoint #63, approximately 1/4 mile, and CDFW modified their draft 20F line to incorporate our comment. Paul 12

CA Regulations / Rockfish Season Closed until approve by the Office of Administrative Law« on: March 30, 2024, 09:52:50 AM »
The 2024 groundfish seasons are expected to be reviewed and approved by the Office of Administrative Law and take effect in state waters in early April. The Commission and California Department of Fish and Wildlife staff have worked diligently to expedite the adoption of state regulations to allow boat-based anglers to get on the water beginning in April. Until the 2024 regulations are approved, the 2023 regulations remain in effect.
Once the regulations become effective, CDFW’s Summary of Recreational Groundfish Fishing Regulations web page https://wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Regulations/Groundfish-Summary?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery will be updated with 2024 regulations. Before fishing, anglers should refer to this web page for the season openings and other regulatory information. Paul |
