Is this winter thread material?  Is there an Anglo History month? :smt005 :smt006

It has the makings of a nice winter thread; I'll bite: In the English-speaking world, isn't every month Anglo History month?

Paul, thank you for all the effort you have put into this issue.

I only coordinated the effort; other members did the work: Mark, Joe, MooMoo, Nando, Keith, and Adam from NCKA.

We need continued support to push our petition.

Paul

Thanks to the team then !!!

Indeed, thanks to the team.

Paul,

would that mean the full season of RF (whatever duration) would ONLY be 20 fathom (120')?
or that part of the season would be 0 fathom and part 20 fathom?

why not make descenders a requirement?

CDFW’s current thinking is there will be times of the year when the offshore only (seaward of 50 fm fishery) would operate and times when a nearshore only (shoreward of 20 fm) fishery would be in effect.
Which means we might get 50% of the rockfishing season.  If our Non-Motorized Vessel petition gets approval, we might get the full season.

CDFW is likely to require a descender for the next season.

Still a long battle ahead.

Paul

Paul, thank you for all the effort you have put into this issue.

I'll second the recommendation for the Tartine book. I never got to the point where my loaves were consistently good, I was still getting a fair percentage of bricks, but I was trying to use a high percentage of whole wheat which didn't make it easier. Good winter hobby, thanks for reminding me, gonna dig out the pans and give it another go.

Such a steal for this condition  :smt007

Yes.

Ncka has always been a great place for me. Paying it forward. Really thought it would have gone quicker.  :smt001

Yeah, good on you man, that was a great deal on a great yak.

That's the kind of thing that makes me try to minimize unnecessary driving. You can do everything right, and someone else can come along and activate your final exit scenario in an instant anyway. Glad you are ok.

Fish Talk / Re: Urgent Action to Save Spring-run Chinook Salmon
« on: October 14, 2023, 07:18:31 PM »
Fish & Game concerned about the shrinking Chinook salmon population while protecting the invasive striped bass population with a slot regulation.  Why protect one of the biggest threats to young salmon on their way to the ocean?  Doesn't make any sense to me.

Last time I checked there was a concern of some "unintended consequences" because striped bass had filled some ecological niche and who knows what might happen if their numbers declined. If it's broke, trying to fix it might make it worse, I guess?

Welcome, Jim. My daughter is going to school in Walnut Creek this semester, so I'm bumming around the East Bay most Mondays and Thurdays. Let me know if you want to head out on one of the local lakes and start getting your systems dialed in. I'm hanging out at Lafayette Reservoir most Mondays and Thursdays, although I'm going to start checking out San Pablo soon.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Crabbing Advice

I ziptie a 2# ball in the bottom center of my pots. They don't move when deployed off the coast a bit. Different story in Tomales bay where you'd need more.

Yowza, that is a lot of weight over multiple pots but it makes sense. Appreciate the reply.

I have been using 4# dive weights because that was what I had lying around, and my pots don't walk, but I might have to see if I can get away with 2# based on Corey's experience.

I'll add my preference for net rings to the pile. My buddy and I kept count last time, and rings outperformed ambush traps for both of us, they are easier to manage on the kayak and you can carry more, and they're easier to pull.

Thank you for completing the survey and showing your support.  I wish we get around 300 supports and at least 50 people showing up for the San Jose FGC meeting.

Where is the survey? I'm happy to support this but I must have missed the link.

Survey https://forms.office.com/r/g2eDqsrW8R[/color]]https://forms.office.com/r/g2eDqsrW8R

Thank you

I tried both of those links and got a "blocked" message on both.

But the one in the original post starting this thread worked.

this link works: https://forms.office.com/r/g2eDqsrW8R

can you post pix of the kayak?

I recovered the kayak, it is intact. Still trying to locate the owner for the return. The bite is at mid section. The IDD (distance between teeth) is about 50mm. The Bite diameter (width) is about 13 inches.

If you know who the person is, let me know.

thanks
