I haven't tried Paradise and wondered if those who have, could share their take on fishing there for halibut.

Paradise...It's great. Easy fishing. Careful for the launch,  slippery and a little rocky. Never fished ARW.

Much easier launch at ARW than paradise.

Launch is easier at ARW.  But Paradise is a little more protected from wind than ARW.

ARW, there's a lot more ground to cover to find the fish.  Or you could get lucky and they're just outside the launch.  I prefer Paradise because I know the area better.

ARW parking is free.  Paradise is not.  Think its $6 or something like that.
ARW has a porta-potty.  Paradise has nice facilities to use and an area to rinse off your yak.

There’s a Hill.

Not if you let Ranger Jim know you're coming.  He'll open the road for you to drive to the base of the pier and load/unload your yak+gear.

Still gotta pay that park fee tho.

I definitely wouldn't go here(Paradise) if you're afraid of putting gouges on your expensive kayak  :smt003

You beat me to it. 😝
Even when is rough in the bay, launch is well protected and easy. No big hill to climb at the end of the day and it's free.

The sharks look like Brown smoothounds. Fiesty little things.

That's what I thought wasn't 100% sure. Thanks.

Paradise isn’t all that bad, if you can carefully launch and land you can keep the scraping to a minimum. Ive biffed it but that was before the launch was cleaned. I’ve pulled the kayak up and down the hill plenty. It’s doable. But it’s nice that ranger Jim has allowed us to drive down.

There’s always paradise cay, as far ARW I dunno never been there paradise is closer. Traffic is a big deal for me getting to paradise . There’s traffic in the AM and PM.

Sorry I didn't really mean to imply Paradise is bad. Paradise park is very nice indeed.
All I said was if you're afraid of scratching your kayak then Paradise park isn't the place for you.

I used to not like ARW but after they added the dock, it's now one of my favorite place to kayak fish at. What a world of difference a proper launch makes  :smt003

ARW vs. Paradise is the question. For me, kayaking, ARW wins.

ARW, flat, easy launch you back your vehicle down to. More protected area (by the rock wall. Halibut easy to locate: straight ahead, to the left, and to the right. You can hit 15, 30, 45’ of water within about 3/4 of a mile from the launch. Halibut heaven, with striper, batray, and leopard shark thrown in.

Personally, I’ve knocked out more halibut off the Pier without even launching my kayak.

This is my personal experience with these two spots since you ask....

any west wind gets knocked down by the marin hills at Paradise. The hill and the parking fee is the downer. Ranger will let you drive down to ramp if asked nicely. once the park gets crowded, the permission to drive down to ramp may get denied....and that is when you do need WHEELS.

ARW is free and easy as it gets.
