I've landed several 30# salmon from my canoe using a large net.  Once I lift the fish into the boat, I bonk it.   What's the best way to do this from a kayak?  Should I bonk it while its still in the net?  Has anyone landed larger salmon from a kayak?  Thanks.  John, Oregon.

I haven't caught a large salmon (17# was my biggest), but I run my game clip through the gills before unhooking and removing from the net.

While you are taking your time to store your big fish....DO NOT HANG IT OVER THE SIDE.....there are seals out there waiting for you.

I would kill it while it's in the net - and then secure it with the game clip - then lift it on the yak (but just Brian said - do it quick before the sea lions do their job)

Make sure it's dead before you lift it on the yak.....I made the mistake with a 27 pounder that I thought was already dead....well, It came back to life on my deck and nearly tail-slapped my fish finder off the bracket  :smt011 (I'm sure Blue Kayak is laughing hard about this)

HOW NOT TO LAND A SALMON
My friend in Oregon had netted a couple of fish on his boat last year, Salmon. (not in a Yak) and his hands where all slimy and had to quickly net another when the net slips right out of his hands with fish in the net, so what does he do he jumps right in after it. fully dressed boots on wallet every thing no fish is going to get his new net. Well there in the river going up stream (his wife and kids)and he is now in the river going down stream of course the wife has no idea how to drive the boat, but he's just happy he has the net and the fish of course he's starting to realize how cold the water is and then the fish stars wanting to get away, starts tyring to go deep and its taken him down deep as well. Time to either let the fish go or maybe drown. he keep the net but let the fish go. good news  his oldest the 10 year old manges to get the boat turned around and pick him up  :smt001

he has a new fishing nick-name though    SPLASH
