Thank you, Jim - I'll be trying to bring the fam and they'll not settle for less than a cush suite with a pool nearby. :smt003 I am confident, however, that you and I will share a coldy while admiring your new ab wall - BBQ or one of those tasty looking blackened fish will likely come into play as well. Hotel w/ pool w/in walking/stumbling distance of your place?

Hhmmm....not a ton of options right in Capitola Village, and I don't think any of them have a pool and are probably not that reasonably priced:
The Venetian is litterally AT the Pier and the beach is kinda like a pool:
http://www.capitolavenetian.com/
Capitola Hotel is about two block from the water and right on the main drag with the bars and restaraunts:
http://www.capitolahotel.com/
Capitola Inn is conveniently located and a short walk to the beach:
http://www.thecapitolainn.com/information.php
Depot Hill is right between my house and the beach, but looks pretty fu-fu:
http://www.innatdepothill.com/
Probably most cost-effective (and the only one I know that has a pool) is the Best Western over on 41st (2 minute drive or 10 minute walk or bike ride to beach/village):
http://www.bestwesterncalifornia.com/hotels/best-western-capitola-by-the-sea-inn-and-suites/
Hope that helps??
Sincerely,
Jim

Ok, guys, agarcia stepped up for boat support, so think were covered.. Ill let him post to confirm.. thanks agarcia!
I'd love to ride on a T140 or T160, a boat like Big Jim's, or something else long and quick. I can bring my own ride, but borrowing would be real nice. I can bring all my own OTW gear and personal items - paddle, wetsuit, PFD...etc.
Boy this should be fun! :smt003 Having the Hippy Killer parading around throwing waterbaloons at us? PRICELESS! :smt044 Might need to find a way to retaliate!!! :smt005

The Doc says I can't paddle until August or September so that my rotator cuff can fully heal from my surgery...
SCREW THAT!
Count me in. Worst case, I'll fizzle out and have Mr. Garcia tow me behind his fine boat. :smt002 More likely scenario: I tough it out in honor of Mooch! :smt003
Ok guys... Making a little change here to this event....
We are still launching out of the SC harbor, and we will return to the harbor.
The post paddle festivities will be held at Twin Lakes Beach, right next to the harbor. This will make life much easier, its super close and there always huge groups gathering there...

Yup, that is gonna be much better.. Like I said, this was so just so fast... Thought of it one day while drifting for a halibut....
Ive been to a few company picnics here in huge groups, no issues...
Not sure on the beers though, but thats minor.
YES, the morning of the event, buy a all day parking permit from Bayside marine before driving to the launch. Its like $5
Sorry for the confusion!
RED STAR: Launch/Land
BLUE STAR: Post Party
yeah man... if thats legal, then lets do it, lets see what Allen says, as he has got the inside sccop with the harbor master... im not sure how they will feel about 30 or more yaks at the main launch, but that would be GREAT! Perfect actually!

Paddle map update on page #1
Still 5miles as it reads on the flyer, Prolly slightly under 5 miles.
The flier has already been distributed, so I cant change the fact that it says BBQ and Raffle at Capitola beach..
The BBQ is now at Twin Lakes/Harbor beach, right there at the harbor..
Thanks for your understanding. Have a great weekend!
you guys are too much. I'd really like to make this even - but unfortunately, I might be heading to LA that weekend
This is a little off topic, but not too far. I am new to this ocean stuff.Kayak wise. What type of minimum equip should I have other than a kayak. I just bought a radio, been wanting one anyway. I know, pfd of course. Don' t plan on hitting ocean very often, so a min would be good. Wetsuit? Not really wanting to be buying one for myself, or wife. We've both outgrown ours since we haven't been diving or surfing in years. I'm thinking just some splashproof pants for us to stay a little dry. A litlle help would be good so I can plan ahead. I'll talk fishing gear later.
Thanks guys, Rob

Hi Scott,
6'1" or so, 175-80. If you're still offering, I'll use the FJ. I have booties that still fit. I'm more concerned with my wife if she is still going to paddle. She's only been in the yak a couple of times.
Thanks for the help, Rob
Maybe she can fit in my old surf suit??

Mike, I don't know much about the camping scene round here...I know there are spots at New Brighton, and up HWY 9 a bit, and then all the way down in Watsonville...
You running low on $$ and need a place to park/couch to crash on, just shoot me a PM and we will work it out.
:smt006
Sincerely,
Jim
Sledge, dude, cant wait to meet you man!
Come on down... Coastal camping is usually always booked, but osunds like Jim has you dialed in!
Dont worry about the flat wallet man, Ill purchase ya a raffle ticket for your efforts in getting down here.
Any additional sponsors you can get from co workers or friends for doing the paddle would be a bonus. Im working on more buttons, its a brutal pace :)

Sorry to hear that Sledge... Well paddle for both of your parents as well man, that's what its all about!!
And bring my crabtrap too Sledge. There m/b a few dungies crawling around Santa Cruz. You might want to save Sunday for fishing too---there are better spots on the south side of the bay near Monterey & Carmel. Maybe we can hit one of the good spots on Sunday if not too hungover/drained from the Pay It Fwd Paddle!
Sign me up as well Brent. I'll make sure to bring some Bipstek for Mooch for the potluck and some cold ones.
Jedmo

Last year Yakhopper had a fishing contest in the area and he put on a BBQ in the harbor parking lot. Not as nice as the beach sands...
Apparently Paypal doesn't like raffles. Bear with me as I straighten this out.

I have been DENIED by Paypal to accept raffle payments. It is against their Acceptable Use Policy. If you've already paid via Paypal, I will be contacting you. I'll check into other online payment methods, but apparently raffles may be considered a form of gambling so it's better that they just not cross that line so they don't have to deal with it. Grrr ... what do you do?
-Allen
Could the payment be considered a donation to enter into the paddle...the raffle ticket could just be "given" to those who make a donation as an entance to the event...maybe??
Sincerely,
Jim
Awesome offer from local SUP shop owner!!!

I can swing by and drive you down to SC if you need a ride. Karen and Molly will be with me so you will have to ride shotgun with Molly in the back seat. :smt005 I can also bring my tandem if you want to get on the water.
Scott
Allen B. talked to the Harbor Master and he prefers we launch at the "hand launch" They dont want 40_+ or even way more yaks clogging up the main launch. But again, that's up to the individual. Well be set up to launch at the "hand launch". Well check in and sign waivers (just to be safe) and so we know whos out on the water (just to be safe). After your waiver is signed, We will be passing out free sunscreen to promote cancer awareness, so use it.
Exact beach location to be determined this weekend, got some more snooping around to do on saturday...
that little tiny doc on the "Aldos" side of the harbor....
AlsHobie Outback is working on a map that will show the area, where we will be launching from, and where you can buy a $5 day parking pass from Bayside Marine. Thanks, Jim :smt004
This parking pass should let you park right next to where we will start and finish.
We will post it up as soon as it is ready...
No pressure Al!! :smt002 :smt044 :smt005 :smt004
i think the green areas still require a permit after 11am or so...
Theres usually a guy on the street in a make shift set up selling those, i think...
I'm not sure I can catch up with all five hundred pages of this thread, but I plan to attend/paddle/eat/bring food.
I have found a way to make it and I cant wait to get out there and help the cause. Where can I donate or register? Should I just bring some cash down there??? :smt003
Moochs friend Paul, the editor of Kayak Angle Magazine called me today and asked a bunch of questions, hes gonna post a little something online about the event, so bring those cameras, he wants some great pics, i told him feel free to grab what ever he finds on the site after the event... Pretty cool! Hes really stoked on this...and had nothing but GREAT things to say about NCKA, said its the best online community out there..

My bro-inlaw is Jim, he's been working there since he was a kid in high school. He used to be the "guy with the real long hair" but now it's short.

I must say that I am very moved by how this community has come together to support Mooch. I've only briefly met Joel a couple times but through those brief meetings and his influence on this forum he has played a big part in inspiring me to become a better/safer kayak angler.
