Title: Pay it Forward Paddle – for Mooch
Post by: porky (bp) on June 10, 2010, 10:37:16 AM
Pay it Forward Paddle
July 17th, 2010
8:00 AM at the Santa Cruz Harbor Kayak Launch Ramp
$25 suggested donation

A friend to many here at NCKA, inspiration and fellow NorCal Kayak Angler was diagnosed with Cancer. Joel “Mooch” Lotilla  is one of the founding members of NorCal Kayak Anglers , and has been an extremely positive influence in the Kayak Angling community and an inspiration to anglers, paddlers and friends for many years.

The members of NCKA have responded to the news of Mooch’s diagnosis by banding together, creating a PayPal account to accept donations to help with the cost of medical expenses, and donating any and all profits from a series of fishing and kayaking events to the MLPA, “Mooch Life Protection Account” (a pun on the controversial Marine Life Protection Act acronym). The PayPal account for the MLPA has been posted to the website so that anybody can go to www.ncka.org <http://www.ncka.org>  and make a donation to Mooch.

The A-Hulls, a group of big hearted residents of NCKA are organizing an event to support Mooch right here in Santa Cruz. The A-Hulls  are very passionate about helping organize an event that will not only generate funds for Joel, but also celebrate the freedom and joy that paddling provides, and raise awareness and support for Joel and all those affected by Cancer. The first annual Pay it Forward Paddle hopes to accomplish all these goals!

On July 17th at 8am a group of paddlers (all forms of paddlers welcome!!) will meet at the Santa Cruz Harbor Kayak launch and will head out on a 5 mile course around the Mile Buoy and eventually back to the harbor.  A suggested donation of $25 is requested, and paddlers are encouraged to collect additional “sponsorships” for the cause.

We will have at least one support boat on hand to assist paddlers as needed, and some form of post paddle BBQ/celebration at Twin Lakes State Beach next to the harbor.

Those who wish to pre-register can do so via the Pay it Forward Paddle PayPal account on www.ncka.org <http://www.ncka.org> . POLEPOLE IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THIS..

For more information, please contact Brent Pass at 408-309-6791 or email scbpass@att.net or just post questions here.

If you decide you would like to join we can provide you with the flyer template to print out as well as a form for collecting sponsors if desired. Any and all are welcome, so bring your friends!

PAY IT FORWARD is described as an obligation to do three good deeds for others in repayment of a good deed that one receives. Such good deeds should be things that the other person cannot accomplish on their own. In this way, the need to help one another can spread exponentially through society, creating a social movement with the goal of making the world a better place.

Any additional ideas for the post paddle beach celebration, post em up guys, I heard Andy say something about some cooking.... YUM!

Our own Allen  Bushnell of NCKA and The Lets Go Fishing Radio Show will be help getting the word out on his weekly radio show up to the event, tune in guys!

Every Thursday Night 7-8

Don’t know ya personally Joel, but lets do this, you got what it takes from what I can tell!

I am super excited about this!!!!!!

The paddle is gonna be awsome and no matter how much money we raise for Mooch (in addition to all the money already flowing to the MLPA) I think it is going to be a great way to celebrate and honor Joel.

Also, we want to have a concurrent walk from the harbor to Cap Pier for the non-paddlers/family members...Cap Pier/Beach is a great place to kick it and there is plenty of family fun to be had!!

I will post up a map and details about the walk in a bit...

THANK YOU Brent for taking the lead on this...I know Cancer is a subject that you feel very strongly about and I am honored that I get to participate and help out with such a cool event.

Super special thanks also to PolePole and Scallen for their support, wisdom and assistance.

A-hulls...I love it when a plan comes together!!   :smt003 :smt005

Sincerely,

Jim

Anybody who wants to be in a skiff and take pictures of the paddlers as they round the mile-buoy and be on hand to support any paddlers please post up and let us know or send a PM.

The skiff will be one of those Capitola Boat and Bait skiffs and we will need at least one person on there with a VHF and a camera!!

Sincerely,

Jim

Thank you, Jim - I'll be trying to bring the fam and they'll not settle for less than a cush suite with a pool nearby.   :smt003  I am confident, however, that you and I will share a coldy while admiring your new ab wall - BBQ or one of those tasty looking  blackened fish will likely come into play as well.  Hotel w/ pool w/in walking/stumbling distance of your place?

Hhmmm....not a ton of options right in Capitola Village, and I don't think any of them have a pool and are probably not that reasonably priced:

The Venetian is literally AT the Pier and the beach is kinda like a pool:

http://www.capitolavenetian.com/

Capitola Hotel is about two blocks from the water and right on the main drag with the bars and restaraunts:

http://www.capitolahotel.com/

Capitola Inn is conveniently located and a short walk to the beach:

http://www.thecapitolainn.com/information.php

Depot Hill is right between my house and the beach, but looks pretty fu-fu:

http://www.innatdepothill.com/

Probably most cost-effective (and the only one I know that has a pool) is the Best Western over on 41st (2 minute drive or 10 minute walk or bike ride to beach/village):

http://www.bestwesterncalifornia.com/hotels/best-western-capitola-by-the-sea-inn-and-suites/

Hope that helps??

Sincerely,

Jim

It's really cool to see how this thing has come together. I feel lucky to be a part of it. Ya'll make me proud. But I know Mooch would do the same for me.
Kinda ironic that it's going down in Mooch's favorite place to fish = Santa Cruz  :smt044
Looking forward to it guys!

Thanks, Jim!  You're better than AAA!   :smt003

I'll start working on the Bosslady and hopefully will make some reservations next week.  Anybody got a paddling machine that I can use?  I'd love to ride on a T140 or T160, a boat like Big Jim's, or something else long and quick.  I can bring my own ride, but borrowing would be real nice.  I can bring all my own OTW gear and personal items - paddle, wetsuit, PFD...etc.

I've gotta say, looking at trying to get down there for this event is feeling like the next proper development in my kayak life.  Thanks, Brent and Jim, for heading this up, and thanks, everyone, for being so supportive of our bro, Da Mooch.   :smt056

hmmm, i need that table, ill be bring some cash for some raffle tickets!!!

Gonna need a few guys to take over a good portion of the CAP beach by 7am... We usually launch/land on the small side, its more low key... Somebody to set-up and chill with the cooking gear..... Me, Jim and Stoggie are closest, im sure we could go down early and get our spot, just need someone to chill with the gear during the paddle, pro beach bum style...

I got one "Not So" Eazy Up, may need another...

no entry fee for this job, unless you so desire....

Confirmed.  If joel rides shotgun you guys should be aware that I have about a 200 waterballoon capacity, he might throw like a girl but I'm sure we can get him close enough to get you  :smt001

See me before launching if you want me to carry any drinks or fishing gear you're gonna need after the paddle.

Here is a rough map showing the mileage of the walk from the Harbor to Capitola Pier...the more direct route is along Portola, but East Cliff is more scenic and has less traffic (IMO).

I will confer with Ana who runs over there all the time and hammer out the exact route, hopefully get one of her running buddies to mark the course with flour and chalk, and have print-outs of the map for any walkers!!

Eric, I am sure somebody will have a boat you can use..if not, you can always use my BigYak and get a great workout!!!   :smt005 :smt044

Jim

yeah, i knew something was wierd, i did not know whos body it was, but it reaked of photoshop bad!!  I knew his head was plopped on by someone...

But figured it was your guys style, All you guys that are friends with Mooch always seem to be joking around, so thought it was a perfect fit.... all in fun and good faith, rather keep the fun in things.

Just a heads up too, if any of you that are friends with Mooch wanna jump in a help take the reigns, PLEASE, by all means do.. Like I said I do not know Joel... I just know what he and his family are going through.. My goal is to give back to someone like Joel, as my father and family received so many great gifts from other familes and people we didnt even know.... For me, that what is all about. Were just doing this, no prior experience, just a will to help and a keep things positive...

I want NCKA to support this event in a major way. Over 75 drove to shelter cove for GS4. It's not about the money, it is about supporting a friend who really needs our help. So let's get it on and I want to see the OG there too. If we don't get 100 NCKA folks there, I am going to quit NCKA. Enough said.

Heres the 1" Buttons.

3 for $6

$1 goes back to the buttons to afford to make more.

$5 goes to Mooch.

They will be packaged.

Just a peak for interest purposes.

White button is a Andy Wharhol spoof... And what I read about this topic from Moochs friends.

Yellow button is a clip from Moochs signature on NCKA

Blue button is the event.

Wife is gonna mass produce them, prolly need some people to sling them.

I will be a non paddling sponsor on this. Will cost you a beer my friend to meet and collect my donation :)

Hey guys we need some volunteers for a few things.

First off Jim and I will go to the CAP beach early that morning to set up the eazy up, but wre gonna need more help.

-Hanging at beach to set-up stuff for potluck/celebration, prolly early in the AM day of the event.
-Shuttling people back at the end, back to our cars at the harbor. ( Slight inconvenience we have to pay for doing such a wonderful thing)

-Anything else?

These are all good things that non-yaking family members/friends can help with ...the more yaks we get out there the better!!!

So if we can get these spots filled, or someone can be in charge of this that would be really cool....  Its is a must do..

Ok guys... Making a little change here to this event....

We are still launching out of the SC harbor, and we will return to the harbor.

The post paddle festivities will be held at Twin Lakes Beach, right next to the harbor. This will make life much easier, its super close and there always huge groups gathering there...

Sorry for the confusion! This all came together in about 24 hours, wasn't sure what to expect as far as participation goes. But so glad to see it getting bigger...

This beach is much larger and we will just blend in.

Ill update the paddle path as well as the information needed!

Allen will be speaking to the harbor master, as we will have a large group in and out! Were gonna need to be real sure everyone follows the harbor rules, which we can post later, Allen was kind enough to step up and put his name on the line for us.

Stay tuned... Im at work now so may not update the paddle and flyer till this evening!

Thanks for being patient... This s gonna be even better now!

Harbor beach/7th Avenue.....great choice I was going to suggest same.  Firepits and always big groups there..Beware parking is a hassle, best to pay for a permit at the harbor.

I wil give Dennis Smith a call today or on Monday.

God Job Brent.

Ive been to a few company picnics here in huge groups, no issues...

Not sure on the beers though, but thats minor.

YES, the morning of the event, buy a all day parking permit from Bayside marine before driving to the launch. Its like $5

Paddle map update on page #1

Still 5miles as it reads on the flyer, Prolly slightly under 5 miles.

The flier has already been distributed, so I cant change the fact that it says BBQ and Raffle at Capitola beach..

The BBQ is now at Twin Lakes/Harbor beach, right there at the harbor..

Thanks for your understanding. Have a great weekend!

It looks like there is a good chance I will be showing up with my wife. Since I only have 1 sea worthy yak, I was hoping one of you might have a spare. We were thinking about coming down with the motorhome a staying at Seacliff SP.Any other suggestion would be cool also. We've stayed there before and really liked it. I will also need a few suggestions on what I need to bring for ocean travel. Maybe try to get one or more of you to break me in on ocean fishing too.

Rob,

I got a long parking spot in front of the house/garage that my parents park their RV in...got spots to hook up power and water, but no drainage or nothing for your tanks...

You are welcome to park and hook up here if you want...about a 5 minute walk down to Capitola Village/Beach...just let us know...

Not as "scenic" as Seacliff, but available if you want...

As far as your ocean " fishing guide"... :smt005

I'll show you what I do, but no promises!!

Thank you for wanting to come down and just let me know about parking over here!!

Guys,

There's some great donations coming in for the post paddle raffle.

Fishmaster Andy has his custom Fish Cleaning Station. Bring your trucks.

Quote "Fishmaster Andy and SCAllen are going to donate an awesome 6-kayak trailer to the raffle.  Tell people to put the hitch on their truck to drive it way on the 17th."

Also Karen and Mark from HOOK-1 are putting together a very nice package to be announced later. Lets show them some love.

Bring some extra cash for the raffle, all money generated goes you know where.

The A-Hulls own, AlsHobieOutback spruced up the map. How cool is this..

If I may, I'd also like to remind everyone about one of our own, Steve "Chef" Blackwell who passed form Cancer a few years back. He was (and still is) a big inspiration to us all during the early days of NCKA. Please honor him. I posted a few links for those of you who did not get the pleasure of knowing this admirable man.

I've also learned recently (via PM) that we also have another cancer fighter in our NCKA family. Though he wants to remain anonymous, please send him all the positive NCKA vibe.

And also to Rich's dad: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,20692.0.html

Thee paddle is a great way to honor everyone and every family that has battled cancer. Thanks for being so open dude, that's inspiring in itself. I'll be honoring my dad too, can't wait.

Strange as it is, I just got word today, that my dog and best friend Sally has cancer thats been giving her seizures. She an old girl, but a happy camper still, gonna paddle for her too.

I will be building a custom kayak fishing rod and donating it for the raffle. It will be a Batson Rainshadow SWS 696. I usually only build Calstar or Seeker rods but I chose it based on recommendations by KZ:

"I also really like the Rainshadow SWS696 as an all purpose Norcal saltwater rod... cut back from the butt to 7'4" or 7'6".  The more I use it, the more I like it.  The Leepins used them on YT on the Islander and gave them big thumbs up for that as well."

As you know, KZ is THE rod expert of NCKA and legendary dino slayer. It will be cut back to 7' 4" (from 7' 10") and is rated 20-40#, 1-4 oz lures. It is a X4 graphite/glass composite blank. It has a nice moderate fast action which is perfect for fishing spectra. It should work well for live bait, yo-yo iron and light jig tossing. It is pretty light in the hand but has amazing lifting power. I am building it for yellow tail, dorado and white sea bass and will be using the following components:

American Tackle - Gimble and aluminum reel seat
AA large arbor cork grips
Stainless steel leash attachment/hook keeper
Fuji BHBNG Silicon Nitride II boat guides
Fuji MNST Silicon Carbide Tip

I will post pictures of the rod as construction progresses. When completed, it will be a one-of-a-kind rod valued at over $300. Whatever rods you are fishing with now, you are going to want this for your arsenal. See you on 7/17.  :smt006

This is a little off topic, but not too far. I am new to this ocean stuff.Kayak wise.  What type of minimum equip should I have other than a kayak. I just bought a radio, been wanting one anyway. I know, pfd of course.  Don' t plan on hitting ocean very often, so a min would be good. Wetsuit? Not really wanting to be buying one for myself, or wife. We've both outgrown ours since we haven't been diving or surfing in years. I'm thinking just some splashproof pants for us to stay a little dry. A litlle help would be good so I can plan ahead. I'll talk fishing gear later.

  Thanks guys, Rob

I have an extra farmer john, dry top and booties if you are an average sized guy. PM me if you want to borrow. Find some experienced guys to buddy up and make sure you know how to climb back in your boat. For fishing gear, 12-30# tackle should be fine. Ironically, according to Mooch, Santa Cruz has no fish so I wouldn't get worried about gear.  :smt005

Hi Scott,
6'1" or so, 175-80. If you're still offering, I'll use the FJ. I have booties that still fit. I'm more concerned with my wife if she is still going to paddle. She's only been in the yak a couple of times. Does real well, good balance. I just want to make sure she'll be OK. Maybe she can fit in my old surf suit?? Probably not. I was offered to use a Trident-13 I think for her or me. I have a T-160 DH. which boat do you think is more stable? The Tarpon seems a little tippy at times. I don't worry about it personally. I've been in really bad water and had no problem. Want wife on the more stable. I'll check on suit for her around here to borrow. Everytime I've been to the coast in that area the water has looked pretty good.
   Thanks for the help, Rob

Rob -

I will bring a FJ and dry top for you. This is a moderate distance paddle with a late start on the ocean, so something  to consider is paddling a tandem with your wife. I have a Malibu 2 XL which you can use if desired.

And bring my crabtrap too Sledge. There m/b a few dungies crawling around Santa Cruz. You might want to save Sunday for fishing too---there are better spots on the south side of the bay near Monterey & Carmel. Maybe we can hit one of the good spots on Sunday if not too hungover/drained from the Pay It Fwd Paddle!

Custom Rod - Step #1 - Handle & Tip - 2 1/2 hours

Spined the rod and glued on the tip. Next I cut 6" off the butt section. Then I reamed the cork grips for an hour. I really like cork because of the traditional look and feel but on these large diameter saltwater rods, the reaming seems to go on forever.  :smt005 Then I glued up the handle with paste epoxy.

BigJIm- what TNT event are you training for? my wife and i met on a TNT event (i was her coach!)

Steve...my wife is a TNT mentor/web captain/die hard...She does at least two events a year...for at least 7 years now...

Where were you a coach at??

I trained with TNT for the Mardi Gras Half Marathon, but then got a stress fracture in my heel and had to quit...then when I got better I joined again and trained for and completed the Royal Victoria Marathon last October...great stuff!!

Thinking about joining up this fall to train for the Nike Women's...

I already am registered, but could really benefit from the structure of the training and it would be a way to raise $$ in Joel's honor for a larger Cancer related organization...If I did the Fall season I could get extra training for Nike AND register as a participant for another event..two Marathons in Mooch's honor...tempting!!

For those who aren't familiar with Team in Training here is their website...

http://www.teamintraining.org/

Basically TNT supports you in training and crossing the finish line of your endurance event, and you committ to raising a certain amount of $$ for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society...there's more to it than that, but that is the gist of it...

Sincerely,

Jim

I was wondering if you foresee any problems in trying to relocate from the launching area to the beach banquet raffle area? Last year Yakhopper had a fishing contest in the area and he put on a BBQ in the harbor parking lot. Not as nice as the beach sands but much easier not having to relocate and pay another six bucks for non-existant parking.

Dude Al, nice. Love the little chief. Got one my self, cool items.

Bigwavedave, not so sure on the parking lot as we will have a ton of people, family and friends, not only that it prolly isn't the best choice for children. Worst case we paddle, and return, then just walk over the bridge down to the beach. I know it's not absolutely ideal, just working with what we got, and it's for a good cause. My plan is to arrive early, get beach parking and wheel my yak to the launch and back. Allen informed me that the harbor master prefers we launch at the kayak launch too, just a heads up.

Last year Yakhopper had a fishing contest in the area and he put on a BBQ in the harbor parking lot. Not as nice as the beach sands...

there will be more twin peaks at twin lakes, to keep it interesting for all

I have been DENIED by Paypal to accept raffle payments.  It is against their Acceptable Use Policy.  If you've already paid via Paypal, I will be contacting you.  I'll check into other online payment methods, but apparently raffles may be considered a form of gambling so it's better that they just not cross that line so they don't have to deal with it.  Grrr ... what do you do?

Could the payment be considered a donation to enter into the paddle...the raffle ticket could just be "given" to those who make a donation as an entance to the event...maybe??

Jim

Subject: Donation of SUPs for use in Pay it Forward Paddle

Any of you guys want to take a SUP out instead of your yak, or have a friend who wants to?? Let me know!!!

Sincerely,

Jim

Nice work Brent!

Yeah I know there are some non-NCKA folks (including some of Joel's family) that will be coming out for the potluck, and some local SUPers who will be paddling with us!!

I have also gotten requests for the info on parking, and food needs so I will relay whatever is posted here to the FaceBook folks.

ALSO, one of Joel's nieces makes KILLER cakes/baked goods (my wife and I were drooling over her website all weekend) and they will be bringing goodies to sell (all profits to Joel!).

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wow-Look-at-that-Cake/121336561235556

Also...where exactly are we meeting to begin the paddle...I know where I launch from in the harbor, but I think there are a few kayak launch spots possible...Just want to make sure we are all on the same page!!

Thanks again Brent (and everybody else!!) for all your hard work on this...it is going to be a great day no matter what!!!!!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Allen B. talked to the Harbor Master and he prefers we launch at the "hand launch" They dont want 40_+ or even way more yaks clogging up the main launch. But again, that's up to the individual. Well be set up to launch at the "hand launch". Well check in and sign waivers (just to be safe) and so we know whos out on the water (just to be safe). After your waiver is signed, We will be passing out free sunscreen to promote cancer awareness, so use it.

Exact beach location to be determined this weekend, got some more snooping around to do on saturday...

The yellow arrow area has a small boat ramp, and there is metered parking all around that area. 3 bucks in quarters will give you 3+ hours of parking.

Its my sentimental favorite launch as my life changed 3 years ago at that ramp. :smt001

I was just a paddler then, paddling my P13 over to some guy with a yellow yak loaded with fishing gear and a nice hali...

He looks at me, smiles and says those immortal words, "you gonna set that Prowler up for fishing??"

And that's how I met our beloved "Scallen".. Thanks Allen... :smt006 :smt006

Here ya go!

1> Hand launch ramp, for all paddle participants this is where you want to park and launch your yak!

2> Bayside Marine.  Buy your 5$ parking pass here for the 'yellow' sections inside the harbor.  With the pass you can ONLY park in parking meter spots!

3> Private Parking Lot, Just a couple blocks from the beach.  I *think* it's five dollars to park there too.

4> Green marked areas are street parking, which I believe is all free/first come first serve.  Locals, please correct me if I'm wrong!

Yeah, the "free" street parking is no longer free.  My karate club ran a beach workout there about 5-6 weeks ago and we were told, much to my surprise, that there was a fee after 10am.  I think it was $7.  They have a trailer parked right in front of the beach at the intersection of E. Cliff and 8th that sells the day pass.

BTW, I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but there is no alcohol is allowed at Twin Lakes. :smt010  FYI, that way no one gets a ticket.

Just show up at 730 am at the launch site shown above!! Hoping to be paddling by 8am!!! Brent's Mom will be there selling raffle tickets ($20) and getting folks to sign a waiver! Bring PLENTY o' cash cuz you are gonna want to buy more than one ticket!!!

Scott, the party/potluck will be going on at Twin Lakes State Beach, right next door to the harbor. After you are done paddling you can load your yak on your car and drive around and park on the other side of the harbor and then just walk over.

Thinking party/potluck will start around 11am and the raffle drawing at 2PM!!

Gonna be great guys!!

Sincerely,

Just a reminder guys...

For every $20 you donate at this event you get a raffle ticket...

This also includes your suggested paddle donation...

This also includes any sponsors you get for your paddle....

I know of a guy who’s got $250 in sponsors already.... So ask your friends, family and co workers to sponsor you, that’s a ticket for for every $20. The deal here is to raise money....

Thanks for all the support!

Add waiver just like mentioned above,
I will be there to paddle and join in the BBQ and raffle.
I will sign the waiver in the am and have a donation item for the raffle.

Just a few questions:
 Anything needed?
How many will be fishing while paddling?
How many will be participating in the shots on the water?
Anybody camping either Fri. or Sat. night - if so where?
Will $200.00 cover the paddle and raffle?
Anybody need to borrow a yak or can I leave the trailer at home?

See Ya There,
Eric / Yakhopper

I plan on bringing a rod, since this will be the first time I've been able to hit the salt since last year and refuse to get out there without wetting a line.  I don't even care if I catch anything!  :smt003

Shots? Did someone say shots? I'm in!   :beer1  Can't drink on the beach, but on the water is another story!

Also, knowing you guys I could probably just show up and get help, but I thought I'd ask first...if anyone can help me wrangle my Outback off the top of our CR-V I'd appreciate it.  I'm 3 months out of my rotator cuff surgery and healing really well, but I don't want to push it.  Which is also why I'll be peddling the yum-yum yellow Hobie rather than paddling my T160...on the bright side I act as shark bait for my NCKA pals!  :smt003

Eric -

If you really want to catch a fish I would do the live sardine thing. Since this is more about paddling for Joel and less about fishing I will be traveling light: 1 rod, 1 handline, 2 trolling plugs, 4 swimbaits, 1 fifth of quervo 1800, 40 disposable shot glasses, lime and salt. Here is my top secret game plan...

#1 Troll a surface, suspending or pencil popper in the surfline north to the pier for halis and stripers
#2 Fish the kelp north of the pier for 15 minutes with swim baits (handline)
#3 Paddle out to the mile buoy and toast Joel with quervo shots till the bottle is empty (15 minutes?)
#4 Fish the mile buoy with swimbaits for 30 minutes
#5 Troll a Rapala CD14 from the mile buoy to the southern waypoint for thresher or "basking" sharks  :smt005
#6 Troll back to the harbor with surface plugs

Sound good? Maybe one fifth is too light?  :smt005

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I read somewhere that there will be no safety boat. I thought agarcia was having trailer issues. I'd love to be wrong on this as I'm sure we'll probably have some inexperienced salt paddlers who might feel a bit more confident if they knew we had a safety boat.

Talked my daughter into joining me with all of you tomorrow.  Her first time yakkin in the ocean.  Told her the chances of the shark picking her out of the heard is minimal at best..lol

Save a shot for the 2 of us, she's gonna want one by the time we hit the mile bouy : )

And ditto on Mooch being a good guy I've never met.  Really glad to be a part of this whole thing...

Oh it does....big gulp size and I can hold the lime or beer in the other hand and still move fwd. Actually the T13 will allow my little girl to sit in front of me. First time OTW water for her. All she's been saying this week is "I go fishing on KY-YAK"

looking fwd to it

Many thanks to all attending and those who can't attend but are supporting anyways. This is going to be a great event and look forward to seeing those who can make it tomorrow. Most importantly I want everyone to give Joel a hug tomorrow. Research shows that these things can actually improve cancer survival. Collective positive energy makes a difference. :smt006

Thanks! Scott

Mooch I will be there late (save me a couple of raffle tickets please), but I will be there.  I won't be able to paddle this time, but I will be there for the cause!  Look forward to seeing you, and not for the last time.  I need a contact up there in the great nroth once I break that piggy bank open and break down for that big once in a  lifetime trip and I am hoping it will be with you "the one and only Phillipino Alaskan Paddleboard fish slaying, bear wrestling marvel!"
