I'm usually the one teasing my wife about packing too much... :-* This is only a fraction of the gear I'm bringing on the 3 day RV spearfishing trip down in southern Big Sur. I'm not sure how to slim down gear + clothes + food.

David Zboy, Daniel Mastro, David Gold and I are going to spend time getting acquainted with the coast between Ragged Point and Mill Creek over the next 3 days. I've been studying google maps satellite views, scouring the forums for info about past dives, and praying for ocean to cooperate. I even compiled a 6 page document on all the spots we could find, water access, screen shots, places to hunt dependent on swell direction, etc. Our goal is to dive 3x/day at different spots but we will see what our bodies have to say about that since most of the entrances involve steep trails, cliffs, and lots of gear/fish to tote.

The water in Monterey has been FLAT CALM for a couple weeks but the vis has been pretty bad. Looks like the swells in Sur have been 3@12 all week but as of tomorrow bump up to 5@6 with nasty wind. Definitely still dive-able, but I hope vis is at least 10', any less and it's going to be much harder to hunt and shallower dives which would be disappointing.

I'd welcome any insights you guys have today (I will lose reception by 8p tonight) on your experiences down there. I know all the main spots (there are at least 6 different access point areas from Ragged to Mill Creek) but if you have any other places to try, let me know!

We are going to film the trip, so hopefully vis works in our favor because the report write up next week will be much more enjoyable for you all. Personally, my goal is just size of fish, not quantity, so wish me luck!

There's definitely a fish under THIS rock....

Sounds super cool and exhausting at the same time. You'll be hurting for sure Tuesday but with a smile on your face. Looking forward to your vid. Had a bottle nose dolphin buzz me out there pretty cool.  :smt007
