You would think this would be a fairly straight forward bit of info to acquire.. Apparently not. Does anyone own a newer Ride 135? How much do you weigh and is it a dry or wet ride for you?  :smt011

Thanks ;)

It will be a dry ride almost all the time no matter what you weigh. I had a 368 pound injured vet at a HOW event and the only wetness was in the tank well. It took a little water through the scuppers. I think if I moved the seat forward a bit for him it would have solved that too. The only water you will get is from paddle drops coming in off the paddle. Did not look at where you live, but you are welcome to try my Ride or Tarpons out. How big are you? I can answer any Wilderness questions you have. If you want to talk I can pm my number to you.

Hi Rob
Im 6-3 280  :smt006

I am on the central coast area, Atascadero.... I am betting you are farther north.
Is it the older rides that supposedly had the wet butt issue? I see people in my research online saying how you should buy a ride 135 "if you like a wet ride / butt" and others speak to the contrary.. I have also seen sites that list the Ride 135 at a 400 lb capacity instead of the 550 lbs Wilderness claims.. I can only assume that older models had a lesser capacity? Many of the online reviews are outdated and many of the reviews I come across are old. There is no Wilderness dealer in my area that has new ride 135 to demo.. I am most likely going to be purchasing from ACK online. I am wanting a kayak that I can beach launch on the coast and use in the local bays and lakes as well possibly.  My other 2 possible choices are the OKBG2 and the FnD...

The older one was the wet butt Ride. No way on this one to sit in the water at all. The seat is up off the bottom of the boat. The new boat is 550 cap.

I 5'11, 280 and am dry in Ride 135. It is only a year old. I like it. It is nice to paddle, pretty stable (if I brace properly I can shoot the shotgun from 10 oclock to 2 oclock) and carries a lot besides me!

Is the new 2014 raised seat stationary? I dont know about having a raised seat, I think a low seat sounds better, unless the seat is adjustable from the low to high position?

You can get a high or low seat when you get it. You get to choose. I would. Go with he low seat if you are worried about stability. Both high and low slide forward and backwards to level the load. There is a new high low combo seat on the close horizon. It will be an up charge to get it. It will be about an additional $150. Everybody that has tried it has loved it. It is like no other seat in the industry. I am picking one up tomorrow to test out and give my opinion on it. I think it may be available at the end of this month.

So its coming out soon and it has a high / low position that is adjustable? Hmmmmmmmm I wouldnt mind a high position in lakes and bays... But in open water I would want a lower center of gravity... Thanks for the info :smt003

Adjustable on the fly, made in the good ol' USA. Even reclines. Has storage and also can mount rod holders or other gear to it also. Cup holders are a good option.

OK. Tried the new seat out tonight. It is awesome and extremely comfortable. A log time Jackson paddler tried it and said it is much more comfy than the Jackson seat. High, Low, Reclines, and you can sit on the folded down seat to be even higher. Super stable in the high position too. Rode wakeboard boat wakes with no issues at all. And, Super dry. The only way to get wet in that seat is to fall in the water.
