Title: Shimano Tekota LC issue
Post by: Wilderness medic on December 10, 2017, 08:04:27 PM
Reel is about 6 months old and the LC is stuck. Shimano said I can pay to ship it to them, and if it doesn’t have any rust or corrosion they’ll fix it.

Anyone had theirs go out? Is it any easy fix?

Not an answer to your question but another approach is to send it to Alan Tani who is a local shimano repair guy

He has some kind of arrangement with them, has done my warrant work a few times, also will switch out washers for better ones if he thinks it needs it

Check out his forum. You might get the answer there or it will tell you how to send it to him for repair. I think it is pretty common for line counters to fail.

I read your post pretty late after work last night and didn't pay close enough attention

The line counters on my reels stick now and then, there's a screw you open up on the LC and either run water through it or what I do if I'm on the water is use a mouthful of my drinking water, then test by pulling line, cranking it in and pushing the reset button to unstick things

Forget who told me about the water thing, might have been Alan

He's a good way to go, better than dealing directly with shimano
