I am proud to announce that this year, my wife Ana and I will be running the Nike Women's Marathon on October 14th together as Team Pay it Forward!

Our goal is to train, fundraise and complete the race together! Actually we will run the first 13.1 miles together, and then I will run the next 13.1 miles alone and she will meet me at the finish!

http://pages.teamintraining.org/sj/nikesf12/TeamPayItForward

Along the way we hope to raise as much $$ as possible for Cancer research!!

One thing we learned early on in our training was that the research done by the LLS, not only benefits blood related cancers such as leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, myeloma, but all types of cancer as well.

Please help us make a difference by making a donation.

Every dollar counts, and your words of encouragement are also welcomed!

If you have a personal connection to the cause please let me know so we can include their names on our race day jerseys.

For those that like the FUN part of FUNdraising, stand-by for some cool events I plan on orgainzing between now and October...

In the past we have done Poker nights and raffled off iPads to help raise $$...this year we may do all of those and I am thinking we need to do a yak fishing/spearfishing fundraiser as well.

Joe, you can join TNT and do it with me or jump in as a "bandit" and run the whole thing with me unofficially....they will make you jump out at the very end though and you won't get the experience of having a fireman in a tuxedo handing you a Tiffany's necklace!

Here is the video that first inspired me to start raising $$ for LLS...now that I have two kids it hits home even more....

Jim,

I unfortunately have a name I'd like you to add to your race jersey, next to my dads name.

It's for a very special girl, she was just diagnosed with chronic leukemia, she just started very aggressive treatments, she is going through HELL and shes very scared. She is my niece, and she is only 3 years old. How F'ed up is that, shes so young and cant understand why they are doing this to her. Shes just too young to get it, it sucks.

Her name is Addison Arnold, put her next to my old man.

Addisons dad would find some comfort in this, theres so much that goes on behind the scenes with family, while a loved one fights cancer, anyone whos lived it knows what I mean.  Its the little things like this that make people not feel so alone in the fight. Her Dad is so worried about his little girl. It sucks.

Sent your link to my Mom, she will make a donation in the next few days, she is with Addison now.

Thank ou!

Brent, I'm really sorry to hear about Addison...I have added her name to our website and Ana and I will both wear her name on our jerseys....

If her family hasn't contacted LLS to get hooked up with their patient services she should...they do great stuff for families and loved ones in terms of support and information etc:

http://www.lls.org/diseaseinformation/getinformationsupport/

If her family is interested in having my whole team hear her story and make her one of our "Team Honorees" please let me know...we would all be thinking about her and wearing her name on our jerseys when we do our various events this season (SF, BigSur, Honolulu etc). Gimme a call if you want more details. One of my good friends is our Honoree Captain and she could contact the family to explain more about the program...

Quote
Honored teammates are very special individuals who have battled, or are battling, leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Team In Training® (TNT) participants train and race in honor of these extraordinary people.

So often people are asked to raise funds for a charity with very little understanding of how valuable their efforts are. By honoring a member of our own community, and hearing their story firsthand, participants are able to understand the extreme value of their efforts.

Thanks for your support and kind words bro...I really appreciate it.
