I'm staging our auxillary power source this afternoon.

I feel fortunate to have the option.

Amazing.  We're right at the edge of the outage map.  It could go either way for us.  Our utilities are underground and we are definitely not in a forested area.  I guess being a couple miles from the Diablo wilderness is enough.

PGE website is totally overwhelmed right now. I’ll lose power according to the map.

The plus side is that PGe isn’t really sure what is going to happen when they shut off the power so it’s possible that areas that are close to the cut off areas will not have power too.

Then it is going to take several days to turn the power back on. Last estimate was 3+ days in sonoma county.

Oh well.

We are on that map too. Of course, it would be nothing new for us, as the power goes out often. Our standby generator might get a good workout...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

My wife keeps getting emergency outage messages on her phone but when we look at the map we are, thankfully, not part of the planned outages.

It's the correct link, but the PGE website has been over loaded due to traffic and has been rendered essentially useless.

For anyone in Napa County, schools have been canceled for the remainder of the week due to impending outages.

Just got the most recent notice from PGE:
Shutoff Alert: October 8, 2019 7:18 PM
Power has been turned off or will soon be turned off at the following address(es):

    (deleted) MONITOR RD, EL DORADO
    Meter # 1007652725
    Service Agreement: 5461129174

Quite a change from their last message at noon;
Overnight Alert: October 8, 2019 12:05 PM
Power may be turned off overnight at the following address(es):

    (deleted) MONITOR RD, EL DORADO
    Meter # 1007652725
    Service Agreement: 5461129174

PGE just interrupted broadcasting on broadcast TV.  They are preemptively shutting power to 500,000 meters starting at midnite through 5am in preparation for wind.  They aren't waiting to see if it's gonna be windy, they'll power off ahead of wind.
I have a whole house generator, runs on propane and backed with a 500 gallon propane tank.  I have 3 other generators I just distributed to my elderly neighbors.  Got their extension cords routed to their fridges and TV's plus a power strip to plug in misc stuff.
Soon as power is lost, I'll fill the bath tub in order to flush toilet with a 5 gallon bucket.  I also have my RV's water tank full and 30 gallons of 1 gallon drinking water on hand.
PGE stipulates it could take days to walk down all the lines to inspect for damage before re-energizing.
El Dorado County has set up a resource center at the county fair grounds to open at 8am.  I'm hoping they have donuts!

****EDIT****
Just announced that pretty much all West Slope school districts  will be closed in El Dorado County tomorrow.

If criminals ever have an opportunity, it's gonna be when 800,000 homes and businesses are without power and law enforcement has limited resources to cover their areas.  Just knowing alarm systems will be down along with the business owners dealing with their own home power outages instead of at work has potential for widespread crime.

The water company called me today and said they will loose power too.  No power, no pumping.  No pumping, no water pressure.  No water pressure, no water.  They did say they have back up generation good for a couple hours, hence the wait until power actually fails.  I'd hate to dump a tub of water for no reason and can't imagine 800,000 of my fellow outagers doing the same.

****EDIT****
I was also told that if the system depressurizes they have to do safety tests on the water after restoring service and not to drink the water after an outage until they give the go-ahead.  If PGE is down for a few days and EID (the water company) is down for another day or two, that could be some serious water issues.
