Title: update wireseal & new rod holders on the marauder
Post by: INSANEDUANE on March 20, 2008, 04:53:36 PM
so i put on the new rod holders on the marauder Dave should be happy because this will
be his boat that he will paddle from now on, it's just a better for the fat guys

the rod holders are rams new tube type. One was going to go on my yak but
it just won't work with my setup :smt010 blocks my fish finder man that sucked
because these are bad ass rod holders.

but Dave will be happy :smt007 because they worked good on the marauder the factory
flush mount are just useless :smt013 so these are perfect and look great.

check it out :smt006

I like the looks of the new Ram tubes... I might have to check them out.

The tubes are real sturdy for an all plastic construction and they do come with
a closed bottom with a drain, so I cut 1/4.in off so a long butt rod will drop down and lock
in the grove with the reel in an upright position.

I like to have my reel sitting in the upright postion so I can reach out with my
foot flip the lever drag and let line out while i am paddling.

I don't think Dave can reach these rod holders from the seat on this yak
with his foot but he will be happy anyways  :smt007

That does look sweet!  Problem I keep finding is, how do you protect the wire going to your FF for surf launch and re-entry?  I have searched, and read, but not really found a solution other than having to crawl up and put a bag on it or something.  Just keep thinking that one good drop of salt water on those contacts, and there goes the fuse, or worse rust out the connections on the plug.  Want some way to cap it waterproofed, and be easy enough to do in bad conditions.

Love to see your instructions on the seal!  Always love good home brew ideas, and I know your full of them!

I have not had a problem yet because I allways Carry grease with me and clean the terminals all the time I use
a spray electrical cleaner that you can get at an auto parts store works great  :smt006

Dielectric grease and some maintenance and most units will take it for years...others, like the Pirahana...not!!!

why the pirahana,? not that I would buy such a cheap unit + the ones that I don't like are
the hummingbirds, the ones that plug right in to the mount they would seem to be
more susceptible to corrosion + if it did have problem you have to replace the whole
unit not just a cable :smt010

I got 4 years on this raymarine with no problems I did have to replace one cable
adapter for the transducer because it got pinched but accidents happen :smt013

Picking up some grease today then!  I had read it quite a few times, but guess I forget about some details when I get down to business!  I have an Eagle 250, seems nice and water tight.  There is this other plug on there, not sure what for, but thinking I should seal it or grease it up too.

I have the same unit on my Outback. I never put grease on it and it's all green and corroded now. :smt009 It does do it's regular ff functions. I threw out the package for it daaaays ago.. Let's hope it's nothing important.

Not sure why the Pirahana is born to die but they rot fast.  all of the other Humminbirds have been great...bombproof really.  Cool looking boat.  If you get used to it, you'll ditch your extreme...be careful.

you right man I should stay off this thing  :smt009
I like how it paddles better than the extreme already.
If I get a good bait tank working on this yak it will be
tough to stay off it :smt005

I'm also curious about your wire seals...  That's all I'm missing to install my FF properly.
