Hey Joel,

You might as well put a fork in it.  Sturgeon is a lot like Steelhead fishing.  But, a lot harder.  You need to put in a lot of hours.

Joel... you don't wanna quit before catching and landing a legal sturgeon.  If you do, you'll be labeled a rookie sportsman in my book.  :smt019

It's the sacrifice of time and effort, especially in adverse conditions, that make the big game hunt an adventure for me.  I won't ever quit till I bag my first legal sturgeon.  :smt093

I definitely can't go Saturday.  It's my dad's surprise birthday party, but I might go either Sunday or Monday.

Chuck - I never was a big game hunter to begin with :smt018 ....the truth is, I'd be happy just catching a bunch of bluegills (seriously)!  :smt038  Sitting and waiting for things to happen is just not my kind of fishing (no offense to anyone who likes this way of fishing :smt002 ) I need action baby  :kungfu

But I do know the thrill is worth the wait  :smt002  when it comes to Sturgeon fishing. Don't get me wrong -I do respect the time and effort spent to land one of these monsters - I simply just like to cast lures all day and even troll (gotta get some exercise while I'm fishing - I NEED IT).  :smt002  That's just how I'am...please don't label  me :smt011

Bring on the Salmon baby! :smt066

I'm with ya on the sturgeon fishing...pretty boring stuff. I still go out, but I'm not gonna freeze my a&& off doing it.

I end up being "picky" about the days I go.  I liken it to my choices of bike races or climbs now-- i don't do them all, only ones that are worth the effort.

It sounds like rain all weekend breaking up mid day Sunday. Monday might be the day to hit it.

Well guys... still a few more weeks before I'll be able to get on the water again.

I'll tell you though, Feb and Mar are some of the best months for dinos in terms of predictable and calmer weather and fewer "junk fish" to contend with.  Here's my report from March 6th of last year...

"Pierre and I met up at China Camp and paddled out to Shell Bank at
about 10:30... just before the top of the tide. Fished the outgo
until about 4:00. The weather was absolutely perfect... no wind and
sunny. I got some nice racoon eye tan lines to prove it.

The dino action was the hottest I've ever experienced, but still no
keepers. I landed four undersized dinos ranging in size from 24 to
38 inches. I also broke one off that felt much larger... broke my
40# maxima leader... must have had it wrapped around a scute or
something. I also landed and released three stripers, one shorty
and two that were on the cusp of 18". Pierre was getting bites and
taking swings but couldn't seem to hook anything. Both of us were
using combo of ghost and grass shrimp.
"

I understand you guys finding it a bit boring, it's not for everyone.  I personally can't get enough of it.

It kind of reminds me of ice fishing back home in WI.  We used to sit out there on a frozen lake for hours in a little tent watching a bobber twitch around in a hole, hoping a walleye would come by and grab the minnow at the other end.  You'd watch that bobber for hours sometimes without a nibble.  It was fun anyway... but with sturgeon you get a sleigh ride and a heck of an adventure when you hook up.

I got the fever I guess...

Alviso sounds like an adventure to me.  Joel I agree sturgeon fishing can be slow, but when you hook into a monster it will all be worth it.

My only hestitation about Alviso is making sure we have a viable launch, I never heard back from John at the boat school. I would hate to show up and have a crappy launch.
