General Talk / Registering Kayak with DMV
« on: March 21, 2024, 02:37:37 PM »
I thought I'd make a new thread on registering a kayak since info was a bit scattered in the search and I couldn't' find the answer I needed. I need to register my kayak and have the original receipt from Kayak City. If I enter the original price on the DMV form, will I get taxed a second time for my kayak or will I be alright if I can show them my original receipt showing them that I paid sales tax on it already? I'm trying to figure out how to get this done without paying and arm and a leg for it. I was also reading another post regarding the matter and the poster said he was forced to pay for 5 years of back registration even though he didn't operate his kayak with a motor during that time and didn't require a registration. I'm trying to avoid that too.  Help?

Recipes / Mountain vs. River Crawdads
« on: May 18, 2023, 01:54:46 PM »
I've been interested in going out and laying some traps for some crawdads up in the mountain lakes. I always got the feeling that them being up in cleaner water at altitude the mudbugs would be better tasting. However other folks tell me that the high altitude crawdads have tougher shells, and are more of a pain to cook than their valley cousins. Has anyone tried both and can give me an opinion on which ones are better eating? Now that it's warming up I'd like to get those traps going and see if I can't get a few buckets for the pot. Thanks!

General Talk / Sacramento/American River Salmon
« on: October 02, 2019, 04:43:02 PM »
Any of you guys fish for salmon up here in the Sacramento area? I'm pretty new to kayak fishing in general and want to do some salmon fishing but don't see too many yakers out there. Most guys seem to stick to the bank or have boats. Any tips, or any of you guys go out there regularly and want to meet up? Tips and reports would be appreciated.

Hey all,
Salmon is starting to show up on the Sac and the American river, and while I'm not new to salmon fishing, I am new to yak fishing for salmon. I was hoping to find someone that lives near by that might want to team up and head out to do some fishing. I'd like to try using Kwikfish and silvertrons/spinners or whatever other methods are effective. Just looking to learn and get onto the fish with someone that's willing to share a little knowledge. I live pretty close to Camp Pollok and can easily launch from there (its free!). PM me if ya are interested.

Also I was hoping that some of ya guys might want to share some methods on river fishing for salmon from a kayak. I'm pretty eager to learn. Any help would be appreciated, or you can point me in the right direction. How do you guys do it? Thanks!

General Talk / Native v. Hobie for Ocean
« on: August 20, 2018, 12:31:38 PM »
So I currently have a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 but have been considering moving up to a Native or a Hobie. One of the things that I've been looking for while looking at new yaks is their ability to be effective in both  fresh and salt water. I have noticed that pretty much all of the videos and write ups I see regarding fishing in the ocean have been folks with Hobie yaks almost exclusively.  So I was wondering, is there a particular reason for this? Are the mirage drive kayaks just far superior for ocean fishing v. the native? I must admit I had been more attracted to the Native yaks however if I am going to spend big bucks on a yak I'd want it to be able to do as many things as possible. So whats the story on these two's abilities in bays etc?

Introductions / New Yaker in Sacramento
« on: June 22, 2018, 08:46:28 PM »
Hey all, I'm  new to the yak fishing community but looking forward to getting out there. I'm out of Sacramento and decided to get a yak to better access the Delta and the local rivers and lakes around here. I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you guys and hopefully learning some new things.
