Would this work if you bonk the fish first?  I am thinking it would be a little hard to do on a bigger fish that is flopping around.
There are ways to hold a fish that minimize flopping but I do not see why an immobilizing bonk isn't a good place to start.

I got a question about bonking...not that kind of bonking.  The wholesome I-got-a-floppy-fish-in-my-yak-thats-about-to-take-a-chunk-out-of-my ankle-bonk.  To decommission a fish, is it more efficient and just as effective to drive a sharp blade through the brain area vs. bonk?  The first and only time I had a legal halibut I bonked it like there was no tomorrow and it would still flop around.

That Ikijime stuff, despite being of Japanese descent, requires way too much patience than I have in reserve when I land a fish. I'm more like "Fack the pole isin the water, Fack the line is around my leg, Fack where are my scissors and pliers, Fack Fack Fack".  Just saying'  :smt001

A jerk at one end of the line waiting for a jerk at the other end.
