Title: WTT: Looking for an 80# class reel
Post by: polepole on June 30, 2017, 02:35:42 PM
Anyone have one they are looking to get rid of?  And what might you be looking to trade for?  I don't normally go long range and certainly don't go this big, but it seems there is a possibility of needing gear this big on an upcoming trip.  I really don't want to spend money on something I won't use a whole lot, and will just make due with a 60# rig if it comes to it.  But it's worth throwing this out there in case the "right trade" comes along ...

The weird part, I just happen to have a rod suitable for this task, just not the reel.

you can rent gear from the landings for a daily fee. cheaper than buying a 80# class reel

I know ... and I don't plan on buying, if I'm lucky enough to find a mutually beneficial trade.

I have two 60lb class reels, a Mak15seaII and a Penn Torque 30ld2. The Torque isn't a true 80lb reel, but I could probably get away with fishing it like one on our trip.

So funny.  I just made a voicemail to Hot Bobby asking "How much do you love me?"  Trying to beg up an 80# stup. haha.

You know why!  Never enough gear, especially when I already have a rod!  But push come to shove, I'll consider borrowing.

I will lend it to you if I can find the box that I put all Accurate and Penn International reels in it.  When do you need it?

It turns out that we didn't need our heavy gear at all. Allen was asking in anticipation of our 3.5 day Islander trip we took last year, where there was a chance that we would be targeting the big bluefin tuna in US waters. Capt. John made a good call though, and got us on wide open 20lb yellowfin down in Mexico instead.

I have a brand new Okuma Solterra 50wii.  You're welcome to use it, no line though.  Just make sure you catch something on it.

This trip was last summer.

Although, I'd still be willing to entertains a trade for an 80# class reel, if anyone has one they are looking to get rid of.
