LOL. Booked up this wknd. But I am hoping to hit the rocks in Carmel for a few hours in the afternoon on Sat. Then Shelter Cove. Then Vegas for March Madness/bachelor party..... :smt002 So it just looks like March 29/30 is the soonest I'll be able to fish Monterey Bay from my yak. Then salmon season opens the next wknd...woohoo!

Great article!  Never thought to use my fishing vests while SP'ing! Duh...  I do have a few of the small plano boxes, I just need to get out more and do this.
Thanks for posting the link!

Troy

Around here, with riptides, undertow, and big surf to worry about, it might not be a bad idea to use your PFD with pockets instead of regular fishing vest.  Also, if you cinch it down over your chest waders, it'll act like a super wading belt to keep water out.

Chuck is smart. and if you end up floating around, just take a few more casts until you get washed ashore,  :smt044.

What do you guys do if you decide to keep some perch for tacos?  Carry a bucket? bag? Do you keep a few?

I was carrying a small spile type rod holder and a stringer. Burry the fish in the wet sand and put the holder out of reach from the waves. Then tie the stringer to the rod holder. This keeps the fish out of reach from the birds and the rod holder serves a double purpose. As a marker for the fish and to hold the rod up while I have to retie of just sit back and relax. Keeps the sand from getting in my reel.
