We were hiking Pt.Lobos today about 3-4pm when a Carmel Highlands firetruck rolled into Whalers Cove, lights flashing. They opened the shed doors that hold their inflatable rescue boat and dropped it in the water, jumped in without saying a word and headed srtaight to Stillwater Cove. We talked to a ranger later who said there was a person about 1000yds off shore that had a compound fractured leg and needed to be resued and a helicopter was enroute to transport.I hope all is well with everyone tonight. This is a dangerous time year with the "sleeper waves" and quickly changing conditions. Please be careful and always kayak, dive or go in the water with a friend just in case.
We didn't stay and see how things turned out but please be careful out there....Just a tip

Just saw 10pm news, it was somebody off the 18th hole ??? Still, scary stuff if you're the one out there. Be cool when you're out on the water or out there....on the 18th...Just a tip...

I was just telling my 19-year old son tonight about how he should never go out on the water alone. Being 19, he thinks I am being paranoid!

He wants to me leave one of the smaller kayaks up wth him in Oroville, so he can fish on the afterbay. I haven't given him an answer yet.....
