Title: ARW TOURNY BAIT NEEDS
Post by: Ariel Sea on June 16, 2017, 11:08:56 AM
For all your last minute bait needs for the tournament you can visit:

PHU QUY BAIT & TACKLE
1805 14th Ave, Oakland, CA 94606
SATURDAY HOURS:  6AM–6PM
Phone: (510) 532-8505
Very accessible from the 580 and the 880 FWYS on your to Alameda Rock Wall coming from the south. 10/15min drive from Phu Quy to ARW. Please tell him Ariel sent you and you are there for the ARW tournament. Victor has generously donated gear and tackle for the ARW Tourney

Victor has tons of tray bait but unfortunately he hasn't been getting any Live Shiners from his supplier. Victor and I have been trying to work with his suppliers across the bay to get us live bait but has been uneventful.

...

For those of you who are driving down for the North you can also visit Berkeley Marina Bait & Tackle for your last minute bait needs.

Address: 2221 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702
SAT Hours:  5AM–6PM
Phone: (510) 849-0432

...

Tray chovies and herring work great for halibut. Sabikis are always helpful for catching live bait, 8 out of 10 times your a catch jack smelt in the 8"-12" range. Those work as well. You can always bring a cast net and try to catch perfect bait size Top Smelt on the inside corner of the wall behind the fence line. I suggest having a mesh bag with cat food and bread crumbs tied to a string.

...

BTW I DO NOT HAVE LIVE BAIT SO DON'T ASK! I do not have the time to get live bait for people, if I did have the time I would totally try and net live bait for all of you. (except FishMaster1)

Remember, one pole limit so you can't fish for bait at the same time.

ARIEL,

CAN YOU GET ME SOME LIVE BAIT?

Just kidding 😁 thanks for the additional info, was curious about how to keep the cat food and bread crumbs near shore and what side of the wall the top smelt were on.

Didn't have cat food or crumbs but tried for the top smelt where you recommend, just got some small brownish perch. Went to the other spot and got one but he escaped when I tried to add water to the bucket. Next throw pulled in this guy but at 20 something inches seemed too big for bait....(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170617/429f3f5ae584705b3ce99511be325e71.jpg)
