I hit one of the small lakes in the Boise today. This was my first trip out in my Hobie Quest. I hooked a few bass using motor oil colored tube jigs. They were holding tight to the heavy brush along the shoreline. Each one wrapped me up in the sticks and got away as I was using my crappie pole with 4# test and could not horse them out. The heavier outfit that I brought along lost a screw early on. At one point I saw large bubbles boiling up near me and I started thinking, "Alligator in Idaho?" Two scuba divers popped up and scared the crap out of me. Even though I did not land any fish, I had a great time and am definately hooked on kayak fishing.

The Quest is a great flatwater boat, good to hear you got some action even if they didn't make it to the boat, and diver surfacing in a lake in Idaho, yeah thet would be a shock.

Welcome to NCKA Idafish. Thank you for the report and pictures.  It's nice to read fishing reports from out-of-town.  Maybe you can hook up with Fishin-Jay on this board.  He moved to Idaho last year.

Welcome to the group. Fishing from your own kayak is indeed a thrill the firs time. And, actually at least for me, the joy of it has never worn off. The scuba divers are indeed quite a surprise—spearfishing? Maybe those bass didn't "break off "—notice any mesh bags on their belts? ;-)

I don't have the rudder installed on mine and I did not notice any of the windy condition tracking issues that others have complained about with the Quest. I do weigh 245 so mabe the fact that it sits a little lower in the water helps.

Hi idafish,

I think we've said "hello" on NWKA before, but if you're ever up in the Coeur d'Alene area I'd be happy to show you some of the many lakes up here  :smt006
