Title: Maiden Voayge Tomales 2/16
Post by: oysterer on February 17, 2018, 08:34:27 AM
Took the new Revo 13 for it's maiden voyage on Tomales Bay yesterday. Once I got comfortable on the boat (5 mins), I started trolling a sabiki and a kastmaster on a 3-way (separately) on the bottom at about 2 mph. I went up the west shore, around the island and down some typically productive water on the east side.

I was very easily able to maintain a good trolling speed and tack. For those of you dreaming of the rare Tomales winter hali, let me tell you this-the highlight of the day was snagging some kelp. Though I got lucky and got a bat ray  :smt047

The water was a cool 53 and I didn't see or mark any bait. After a few hours, I reeled up, stashed the rods and headed in-I was able to maintain 4 mph, with short bursts up to 5.

I'm thrilled with the feel of the revo and can't wait for warmer water and April 15.

Sounds like a nice trip.  Better luck on the fish next time.

Trolling is a piece of cake on a Hobie.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like you’ll be on it once the halis start moving in.
