There have been rumors around about expanding the RCG complex season for boat-based fishermen.

Anyway, I found the new regs posted on the DFG website.  Here they are for the North Central Region (our main region). Basically, it still opens in July but is now open through December.

The regulations for north of Cape Mendocino are somewhat more generous, they now open in May and extend through December.  Here's the link for the northern mangement area.

Has anyone here ever done much kayak rockfish fishing north of Cape Mendocino?

This is so cool and pretty much all due to Dan Wolfords (sp?) work at Coastside.

Rockcod in May up north!!! Combo rockcod and crab runs in December!

south of lopez pt they opened up the 0-120ft range so you can fish 0-240 now, and the season opens in may.  Might be making a run to pacific valley in a month or two!

This is all due to Coastside's hard work.  I had dinner with Dan in Tacoma at the PFMC and thanked him for all he has done.  He is a super nice guy.

It includes lingcod with regards to the early opening in some of the districts, but it doesn't include lingcod for the extended season into December.  Lingcod are closed to all anglers at the end of November.

I'd go a little farther south to mill creek.  It drops off faster there.  I believe the boundary is actually a bit south of limekiln (36th parallel), nearly a mile.

The spot I'd love to hit is pacific valley, about 4 miles south of there.  It's got a huge reef system, I'd love to fish and dive that huge expanse of kelp.

http://www.californiacoastline.org/cgi-bin/image.cgi?image=1637&mode=sequential&flags=0&year=2002  Check out the water clarity too, that's why I'd like to dive, no cities or rivers anywhere near here.

Here's a map:
