Kayaked the estuary of the Rio Ora to the mouth at Playa Camaronal.  They said lots of Snook and Snapper in the river.   Did not fish, but lots fishing at the mouth.    Small ours, but mostly bait.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / San Diego
« on: September 20, 2023, 08:26:47 AM »
Down here at Mission Beach for a couple weeks. First time in years, I have not done a 3/4 day. Looks like the San Diego out of Seaforth has done well. I think the new medicine they have me on gave me a weak stomach. So, decided not to go out. Have kayak fished Mission Bay a lot. Not a lot of catching. Undersized halibut and spotted sand bass. Corvina jumping all over the place. I had one hit No stick. Has to be a huge school as jumping all over Sail Bay and the cove by the house.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Donner Lake
« on: August 20, 2023, 11:21:44 AM »
Went up to Donner State Park last Monday.   Arrive in huge rain storm.    Even the people on I-80 were driving sensibly.   Fished China Cove area for two days.   Fish finder failed on 2nd day.   Kept turning off.   Not battery.   No trout on Brass Thomas Boyant, and pink Kokanee lure on lead core.   Did not make any schools of Kokes.   Did accidentally flip a brand new Kokanee jig in to the lake while setting up.   $5 cry.   Thursday, kayaking, not fishing, the slough leading to the outlet, as lake was white caps.   Campground was maybe 1/2 full with school starting.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Delta stripers 11/16
« on: November 17, 2022, 08:30:33 PM »
Took the boat and not the kayak.  Trolled Fisherman’s Cut for nada.   Bait fished West Island for zip.   Bait fished the entrance to Sherman Lake on .Sacramento side.   Kept two 20” and released a close 18” striper.   Would have poured Hair Raisers, but seems as if I left them home.   Couple bass fisherman said the caught about 30 all before 11am.  Then bite shut down.   I launched at Big Break at 11:30.   Was told many break ins at Antioch and had the camper on the truck.   Got shad bait at Gotcha bait.  $10 at Big break.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / New Melones
« on: October 11, 2022, 10:08:26 PM »
Had not had the boat out for a long time.  Wife did a ladies trip to Santa Barbara, so I took the boat to the lake.   Left a day late as had installed new Kodiak brakes on the trailer. Got it home and one hub very hot after a 2 mile trip.   Caliper touching rotor.  Easternmarine sent one wrong caliper bracket.  First one I installed, so did not notice difference. Was shorter than correct one.   Ended up removing caliper and capping off brake line.  Ran trailer with 3 wheel brakes.  Lake really low.  Only Iron Horse campground open.   Reservations required.  So, found a pull through site and used phone to make recreation.gov reservation.   Sucks to have to pay a reservation fee when open campsites.   Lake is really low.   Saw one kayak fishing, don’t know his success rate.   I trolled for trout, with nada results,  bass jumping, but no love on the catching.  Not paying attention and broke shaft of the bow mount trolling motor.  $90 in parts.   Boat ran well, jet drive bucket shift spring decided to leave the boat, so have to hold shifter for bucket when in reverse.  Was hot, hot.   93 when I left Sunday morning.  Some of the bass guys were catching fish, on Ned rigs.   Without trolling motor could not hold position to fish lightweight Ned rigs.

Down here for a couple weeks.   Went out Wednesday on the yak.   Trolled mostly.   Drop shot with a jig weight.   Looking for halibut.   Couple bites. No sticks.   Grandkids down for the weekend, so probably no fishing until next week.   They love the kayaks, and I Don’t get much time while they are here.   Scheduled on the San Diego Wednesday.   They have been doing good on mostly dorado.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Donner
« on: August 09, 2022, 09:16:26 AM »
Up here camping for a few days.  Late start yesterday as looked like major thunderstorms would be happening.  Set up the kayak, i11s and realize everything but the depth finder is in the bag.   Must have left in the garage.   So trolled a cop car needle fish for a little while.   Maybe one hit No stick.  Did not go as far as China Cove due to wind and late start.
