Recipes / My favorite way to eat my mackerel: Braised Mackerel
« on: October 10, 2023, 09:55:55 AM »
I'm super picky with fish. I generally don't like fishy fish. That's probably why I enjoy eating halibut the most because they are so mild and non-fishy. However, I really enjoy eating mackerel even though they are fishy and braised mackerel is my favorite way to eat them.

General Fishing Tips / Need help!
« on: June 28, 2023, 06:19:39 PM »
I'm going down to SoCal to visit my little niece and nephew later this week. My ten year old niece wants to go fishing after watching my videos. Where can I take her around Long Beach/Huntington Beach area for easy catch small fish or bait fish and what should I use for bait other than sabiki? Thank you in advance.

A video from last week. Halibut action continues to be good in the bay.

General Talk / Kayak Camping at Englebright Lake
« on: April 17, 2023, 08:43:08 PM »
This was a long time coming. I've been wanting to try kayak camping for a while now but chasing ocean fish held me back. Last weekend, I went to Englebright lake for my first time kayak camping, solo, and I had a good time. I always loved backpacking and motorcycle camping was my thing before I got into kayak fishing. Since I fell in love with kayaking, and already have backpacking gear,  why not go kayak camping? Kayak camping might be my new favorite type of camping. I really enjoyed the boat-in campground at Englebright.

General Fishing Tips / My New Favorite Salmon Lure
« on: August 29, 2022, 01:29:27 PM »
I saw a couple of people here mentioning Brad’s Super Bait Cut Plug a while back so I decided to try it. I actually bought a couple 4 years ago but didn’t try it until last year. After trying it, it quickly became my favorite lure for salmon trolling. I like the rolling action and the scent cavity. A few people asked me how I rig it so I made a video.

I dropped the rod AGAIN with a salmon on the end of the line  :smt044 :smt044. It was not as dramatic as last time but once again, I retrieved the rod and landed the salmon  :smt003 :smt003.

General Talk / Help needed on 2019 Hobie Revolution 13 Pricing
« on: December 17, 2021, 12:28:03 PM »
I’m selling my Hobie Revo 13 to a very close friend. Obviously I want to give a super good deal but at the same time, he wants to pay a fair price. How much do you think is a fair but really good deal without offending my friend by asking too little?

Launched the boat out of HMB in the early morning around 3:30 am on the Opener. We had a total of 12 Hoops for 3 people on the boat.

*I swear I've read Max of 10 hoops per person and 20 hoops per vessel but it looks like you can use unlimited number of hoops.

A few of us went out to Sonoma Coast last weekend and was met with super clear water. Despite the super clear water, we still were able to get some fish on our kayaks. First ling I caught gifted me a bait that helped me catch a second ling but the fish refused to get eaten.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Spiny Lobster Opener
« on: October 11, 2021, 12:55:31 PM »
I made another Suicide Trip to SoCal for the Spinny Lobster Opener. This was also my maiden voyage on my “new to me” 2015 AI and wow, I love the trampoline. Catching the keeper lobster was not easy. Pulled all five of the pots every 20 mins for 5.5 hours. That’s over 80 pulls. My arms and shoulders were tired after 40 pulls. My goal was to get at least 4 keepers and went on overtime to bring home 5 keepers.

General Talk / Squid Recipe: Ojingeojeot (Korean Fermented Squid)
« on: September 22, 2021, 12:50:05 PM »
I love eating squid. I like them deep fried and sashimi but my favorite way to eat them is Ojingeojeot, Korean Fermented Squid. Here is a quick and easy (except cleaning and prepping the squid) way to make Ojingeojeot. Both my mom and my wife approved 😁😁.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Ditch Pickling
« on: September 20, 2021, 01:27:13 PM »
I know bass fishing is not too popular in this forum but I just wanted to share my recent kayak bass tourney. It was open water tourney so most people went up to the Clear Lake, the land of the big ditch pickles, but My buddy and I decided to go to Salt Spring Valley Reservoir for peace and quiet. We pretty much had to whole lake to ourselves and no power boats running around.
