For Sale / Old Style Hobie Baitwell
« on: August 28, 2023, 12:29:00 PM »
I've replaced my Hobie Baitwell.  The Tsunami motor burnt out and before that the original 6v battery (or the charger) went bad. I've checked for replacement parts - The batter, charger, pump, and intake tube would run just under $200.00 (including some shipping costs.)

New bait wells are $450.00  I'll sell my old one for $30.00.  I think for around $230.00 you'd have a well that fits about any Hobie.  i used mine in both my old style Outback and a Revo 13.

PM if interested.  I live in Davis.

Loving the pics and post. We’ll be up for our annual trip July 30th.  Halibut and blackberries OMG… throw in some Mad River and Redwood Curtain beer, and our anniversary dinner at Larrupin; and you have the things dreams are made from!

For Sale / 2017 Hobie Outback (NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
« on: June 16, 2023, 10:58:10 AM »
I need some space and can't hang on to all the kayaks I'd like to keep; so the time has come to say goodby to the Outback. It's always been transported carefully and stored indoors. I've done a ton of bass fishing in it both here and in Arizona. Can't remember having it in saltwater but I must have made a trip or two over the years with it with it to Tomales Bay.  But I can assure you if I did it was washed and cleaned up... that's how I generally roll.

Camo Green

Square Hatch

Mirage Drive with Turbo fins

Sailing Rudder

Paddle

HDI 83/200 455/800 kHz transducer (new)

Two years ago replaced rudder up/down and steering lines (Had it done by Fast Lane Sail and Kayak in San Diego)

$1900.00 Firm! Please PM if you are interested.

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Lake Berryesa (pleasure cove)
« on: June 16, 2023, 10:33:47 AM »
Was there last summer - A little expensive (I think $20 to $25) but all the private ramps are that price.  Very nice ramp, parking is not difficult, and the bathrooms are very clean.  Nice if your taking family.

General Talk / The guy who fell off his kayak
« on: May 21, 2023, 08:46:19 AM »
I went to the port of sac yesterday for a quick fish and yak outing.  I was heading around the commercial docks to the Outboard Motor Club when I could see a guy across from the club docks climbing back in a kayak, so I headed over just to make sure he was doing OK. When I got there he was in the boat (No life jacket) but his son, who was pretty obese, was hanging on to the side of the yak and was apparently exhausted from numerous attempts to climb in.

I made my way over to his side to see how I could help and he reached for my kayak and almost dumped me out.  I told him to let go, which he did. He was wearing a life jacket but it I could see it was too small.  It didn't fasten at the bottom around his waist: He was a big boy. I needed a moment to think and told him just to hold on to his kayak and let his feet float up and rest. He couldn't do it because the life jacket was totally inadequate. Even in the life jacket he was having to work to stay up.

He was lucky the water temp was 77 degrees, in colder water this story would not have a happy ending. I realized we were only about 100' from shallow water and asked him if he could swim... The answer was no, so he was apparently Obese, with an inadequate life jacket, and could not swim! WTF?

I told him to hang on to his yak and I would tow them to shallow water (We were only in about 10' when I found them.) So I dragged them to the shore kicking my Hobie as far as I could - then had to pull the drive and rudder up and paddle through the muck but finally got them in 3 ft of water where he could stand and climb in. They got themselves situated and headed back the launch.

It got me thinking about what a fine line there is between life and death anytime your in the outdoors. I know people have died in their off-road vehicles in the desert, on hills I've climbed in my Polaris many times.  People have died on trails I've hiked and in waters I've kayaked. And I'm not a daredevil, the places I'm talking about are generally safe unless you lack any knowledge or common sense!

Just a few months ago I was in Arizona on my 4-wheeler - and I came across a guy in a beautiful Can-Am on it's side and he was standing there with a tow strap. I drove around him and used the winch to pull the vehicle back over - and after we made sure it started up and could run my brother-in-law and took off.  Five minutes later and on a tough rocky trail (not difficult you just have to go slow) the guy I just rescued blows past us going crazy fast. Again... WTF?

I did catch a couple of fish yesterday.

Thanks for the post.  We were traveling when the blooms around the area were in full swing and missed a lot of it.  The pics are appreciated!

Tried posting this already but post failed - who knows but this is second try today

It's a good deal for $1500.00 Below is an approximation of the various parts and pieces if you bought them separately.

The Bioenna battery with charger and water proof box is approx $250.00

Mirage drive in excellent condition with turbo fins approx $300.00

Vantage Seat for Pro Anglers approx $800.00 (That seems outrageous by-the-way)

Anyway thats about $1300.00 worth of stuff plus you get a paddle and a boat.

PM if interested would love to hear form you.

AlERT and APOLOGIES…. I am modifying this post on May 5 because I forgot to post the skeg line is broken and needs replacing.  I am very sorry to leave out an important detail like that on the original post.  I was having trouble posting this and just forgot and it’s a detail that should never have been left off.

I have never been a guy that pulls that kind of shit and I am stunned I left it out.  I will be much more careful the next time I post an item for sale.  I apologize to everyone who has read this post or replied. What a f#ck up this was!

Had to look up WAF in the urban dictionary.  Is there an app I can load to monitor my status and adjust behaviors as necessary?

Trying one more time to post pictures right side up

Hobie PA 12 (2016) $1950.00 Good condition but the line for the skeg is broken. I am the original owner - had some great experiences in this boat including the biggest fish I've ever caught but it's time to say goodbye! The mirage drive is in excellent condition and has the reverse feature.

Kokatat Gore -Tex dry suit: $500.00. This suit is L/XL in excellent condition.  I bought it barely used from Kayak Academy in Seattle. They would rent it out along with kayaks. I used it maybe 4 times - I'm not sure this suit has more than a couple of dozen trips on the water (if that many).  It is too big for me (Lost 30 pounds since I bought it.) If you are 5'11" (or taller) and 200 lbs (or over) this suit is for you.  Best deal you are EVER going to get on a Gore-Tex drysuit in near perfect condition. Also I've always treated the zippers so nothing has dried out.

Outcast pontoon river float boat.  Aluminum frame better than the crap they sell at Costco or Walmart. $150.00

Planning on going on a road trip in 2023.
So far solo Overland camping with my kayak just trying to hear a few places you guys would suggest I check out.
I'm going from Sonoma county to lake crescent in Washington.

Love to hear some suggestions

Trindad Bay off the beach by the pier - it's spectacular and pretty sheltered.

Big Lagoon and Stone Lagoon just up the road

Ten Mile Lake just south of Reedsport, OR.  Beautiful lake with Ospreys everywhere - the Rv park is called Osprey Point (Not a well maintained park and if you stay there DO NOT stay in a space near the garbage truck that they let stew and stink until the haul it off - it's by the office - get on the other side of the park... trust me!)

Also, leaving dogs in your car is totally standard around here but tourists often freak out when they see it because they aren't used to it.
Thanks for both your responses. Extremely helpful. Also didn’t realize Trinidad and Launch beaches were different.  Also good to know.  I’m talking about launch beach! (Apparently) And, based on your info I’ll avoid parking the truck down there if the ride chart exceeds 5’. Thanks again.

General Talk / Trinidad Beach

My wife and I have parked on the beach here before and had a great time kayaking around the rocks: Just loved it.

Because we’re in an RV when we’re up here - we take the dogs with us and leave them in the truck for the 2 hours or so we’re yaking around. We let them run on the beach while we’re getting ready and let them back out in a couple of hours when we return. In the meantime they snooze and enjoy the cool breeze blowing through the truck.

Nobody up here has really given me the lowdown and what level of high tide puts your vehicle (and my doggies) in jeopardy!

Are there any Humboldt’ers out there that can help me?

Do yourself a favor and call FastLane Sailing & kayak in San Diego.  They are a longtime Hobie dealer. Best kayak store I’ve been in. If they don’t have it they can order it from hobie and ship it to you. And when you call them they’ll know what you’re talking about.  https://www.fastlanesailing.com.
