Looking for an ocean fishing adventure

I have only fished for lings and/or cod once in my kayak and it was with conventional gear.  Anyone want to take me out and show me the ropes with my fly gear?

I would love to get into some ocean action from my kayak with my fly rod.  I am available most weekends, and with a couple days notice can get a day off during the week.

I'm down any time.  Just give a couple days advance notice.  I'd even be willing to skip some work to go fishing.

I'll be going out again after work for shad, probably Thursday this week.

Novo fish was nailing the blacks. On the fly last weekend, so was Marcos, (rockroach). I put in a solid 12 min with the 7wt but couldn't resist the urge to fish my new avet.

Save those shad carcs and we can drop traps at HMB then hit the reef with the bug wands.  Looks like we'll be able to hit rockfish and crab in the month of June.  I'll even bust out my 8 wt. for you guys to laugh at.

I'm as new at this as you are, so I'm not a good source of info. Still, it might be fun to trade notes as we figure this out. I made two short excursions last weekend and caught five lingcod on gear. Next time, I'm taking the fly rod! I hope for more calm waters over the weekend. The North Coast seems to get more weather than you guys do...

Good idea posting this thread, Scott. It's cool to see the interest in rockfishing with a fly rod. I have had success so far at Albion last year, but I have not fished SWS or HMB. I would love to join you guys. I only have Sundays or Mondays available for fishing though.

I usually bring two rods for rockfish. One with a shooting head that sinks 6 inches per second to work kelp lines with a size 2 white closer with lots of flash and one rod with a really heavy (800 grains) for getting down deep for lings.

I'm good on Sundays and if need to can always take a day off.  How about we tentatively set a date for Sunday June 8th.  I'd go the weekend before but the in-laws will be in town and I love my in-laws.  I got lucky and they are great people.

Guess I need to freeze up some shad for crabbing while we are out.  My wife would love a crab and cod dinner or two.

Speaking of shad, I'll be out Thursday after work about 4:30 if anyone wants to meet up.  I'll post a hookup later today.

SWS = Still Water South (9th hole of Pebble Beach).
MLPA in HMB starts from the Navel Radar (giant golf ball thingy) and goes North to Pedro Point.
I have an old fly rod that I re-wrapped and would love to try it out. I think its a 7-8 weight; its a "Herters"

Sorry guys, I've been away from the boards for a few.
I'll have to check with the boss, but I have a sneaking suspicion we are gonna be staying in a hotel in SF celebrating my mom's b'day.
