Meh......I've walked the dark side more than once......its not for me.  I cast plenty when bottomfishing, have no problem getting lures down on 10-15 lb mono and am not convinced I'd loose less lures or that the sensitivity factor is all that important in 100' of water.  Plus I like the give that you get with mono.  IMO slow action rods and leaders don't give enough cushion when fighting fish.  Alot of fish especially lings are lost because the back and forth strugle  causes the hooks to tear bigger holes in the flesh then they pop off.  IMO the "no stretch" contributes greater than mono. Factor that with the smaller size stock hooks offered on most jigs these days and your number of releases goes up. I will continue to resist

That is why God invented the Drag.

Drag and shock absorption are two different subjects.  My drags are properly Tani'ed but I still demand that play when a big fish decides he wants to stall, shake its head and change direction.

You don't know the POWER of the dark side......

Heh.

In the end we should all use what we feel comfortable with.  I am rapidly becoming very comfortable with spectra.  If a fish does something sudden I just lower my rod tip.

Is there any reason why Spectra to mono cannot be tied together using a surgeons loop?

I used a spider hitch on the braid and then a double uni to uni on the mono to braid. That way you have a double line on your braid before the mono. Landed a 140 lb yellow fin tuna on 60lb test on a long range boat out of San Diego with this connection. But, really only used braid on rockcod.  I feel the rockfish are looking at the jig or bait and the less connections you have the better.  With Salmon I used a 10 to 15 ft leader of mono or fluorocarbon when mooching.
