Fish must be caught in Northern California (we need to define what that is)

Must have photographic proof

Must have a witness that is also entered in the contest

You must be entered into the tournament (and paid) at the time the fish is caught

Tournement fees are $5 per species

Payment via PayPal

Full payout after expenses (Paypal charges a percent per transaction)

Entry deadline Jan. 30th

Here are my thoughts:

For the entry deadline, I would extend it beyond Jan 30th for some of the species.  E.g  Rockfish/Ling season doesn't open doesn't till (july?) for kayak based anglers and salmon until April.
As this site gains traffic, and the fishing season approaches, more users will be on this site.  I would prefer to include these future member's into the various derbies.
Also, I'd combine Rockfish and Cabezon together and just separate the ling.  What do you guys think?

I'll be down for salmon, butt, ling, and rockfish.  Also, I'll see if I can dig up the release of liab waiver from the MBF tourney and email it to you.

Northern California could be either North of Point Piedras Blancas or Point Sur.

I'd propose a requirement for Photographic Proof OR a witness that is also entered in the contest.  I fish solo a lot and will most likely not have a witness available most of the time.  

I'd also propose adding Sturgeon... with the criteria being overall length so as to include oversized fish if any are caught.

Thanks guys I will add Sturgeon and extend the entry time until the day a species opens for those species with a season.

I am open to overall length for Sturgeon if everyone is cool with that.

How we gonna determine weight?  Certified scales? Any digital scale?  I also fish alone alot and don't always have a witness, will photographic evidence on the water work?

I think we are going to go with photo evidence OR witness.

The scale issue has be perplexed. I would say any digital scale would do. Getting to a certified scale can be a pain in the butt and I am not sure where most of them are.

Take a picture of the fish hanging on the scale.  Take length/girth measurements (with pics).  In the event of a fish being to close to call in comparison to the current leading fish, post the pics and stats on the board and we\'ll vote on it.

Do we really have to wait until the end of the year for payout?  How about a \"skins\" format.  Pay $1 every time you fish into the pool of whatever species you are targetting.  If you catch a fish bigger than the current lead, you cash in on the current pot.  It also makes it so those that fish more have to pay more (sorry Joel).  And it gives us something to trash talk about through the year.

I think the skins format is going to be difficult to manage. The last thing I am thinking about before I fish is to login and add my $1, if I don't catch a fish and I probably not going to put my $1 in after either.

I am going to work on the tech behind a one time online entry and try to get that up and running before Jan. 15th. The only season open is really Sturgeon at that point, Halibut does not really get going until March. I figure a month is enough time to get people excited and to throw in the money.

what about tuna?   also,  do you have to put in from land (launch ramp or beach) or can you have a boat bring you out and drop you off?  

i'm trying to set up a ride out to the albacore grounds this coming year now that  there's reliable live bait in HMB.

I think we should only put in from land. IMO: Having a boat drop you off at a hot location is not really the true meaning of "kayak fishing".....I think real credit is due to the guy (or gal) who paddles the distance and scores big. Just like the guy who paddled to Hawaii from Monterey and fed off Mahi Mahi from his yak  NOW THAT'S AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!
