Visiting the hatchery over the weekend I see fish jumping onto the grate. Cool! Then I see one flop off into the rocks at the grate's side. Then I notice the other ones already there. :smt009
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

If a fish can't understand how to navigate a series of man made barriers towards its efforts to further the propagation of its species, it doesn't deserve to survive.  #darwinism

+1 to that.    How stupid can a fish be ,

1000's of miles in the open ocean only to get wrecked at the mall parking lot.

if it swims, fish it.

That sucks!  Many perils from the high water.  Hopefully there are more good things than bad happening for fish right now...

If 5000 got through and 4 ended up off to the side that's not bad. If 50 got through that's a problem. Any idea what the numbers are?

That's sad. Makes me wonder how many steelhead suffered the same fate since it was put in. I think a little additional sloped stainless steel ramp on each side could fix the problem.

I've been at rivers after a big storm and counted hundreds of fish In trees in bushes and rock crevices or half buried  in dirt or sand this is normal what you saw wasn't even the the tip of the ice burg

Looks like about 1032 (613male & 419female) made it to the hatchery so far this year, but this doesn't count the ones that spawning below.
